So, I've been playing Earthbound a lot recently, and behold the irony, it is the exact game people have been talking about for the past week, on account that it has been rated by the ESRB. I've compiled a list of screenshots to help prove how awesome Earthbound is, so, you know. Anyone who is all "meh" about it might want to change their minds. Before the original Grand Theft Auto was released in 1997, a game called "Earthbound" was released, mixing free-roaming with raunchy humor. It also delved into politics. The Gulf War was going on at the time, and Earthbound managed to squeeze in some war innuendo. And what about the term "Pressing the Border"? Earthbound hid some words that Mom's might find inappropriate, such as "sexy" and "crap". And, well, here are a few highlights from the game (from Starmen.net) I really don't know what compelled me to write this, but this is a game everyone should play.

Thanks TV Eye! I really want to play this game, but I don't want to bother with getting an emulator and just download it on VC.
I have been keeping 1000 Wii Points on the Wii Shop Channel so I could download it the day that it comes out.
I heard (and read the part from Starmen.net) that this game is pretty funny. Also I think that is Shigesto Itoi (probably haven't spelt his name right) in the second picture.

It's hard to point out why I like EarthBound so much. The humour is... different. It's not Lol-full most of the time. It's a mixture of Ptyhonesque absurdity with a hint of subtlety. The existence of Mr. Saturns is a testament to this. The satire is great too. Blue cults, trout flavored yogurt for the elite, and more.
The combat is a refreshing break from endless FF clones. It's not to different, but the rolling HP/PP meters bring an element not present in any other game, save Mother 3 (Which I've also played & beat.)
The story is quite good as well. Porky's decent into corruption is great. I'd never have thought he'd end up more despicable than the ULTIMATE EVIL.

I always thought it was the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory of videogames, because it's story and locations are really weird and surreal. It probably just seems weirder, because the game takes place in the modern age 'n all. Dozens of NPCs look like Mr T. Also Orange Kid is a egotistic bastard and I love him for it

Apple Kid rummaging through trash totally makes that picture. Great job!

Orange Kid's such a little bastard. He spends the whole game trying to figure out how to turn boiled eggs back into raw eggs.

EarthBound will probably come out on the VC Monday, and it will be going up against the entire WiiWare launch, and it will fail because Nintendo WANTS EarthBound to fail.

Nah, Earthbound would beat WiiWare easy peasy ;D If anything, it would hurt WiiWare's sales... so don't hold your breath for it this week

The music mostly as I was too young to understand what the things meant at the time.

Mother's one of the most interesting series Nintendo has on their hands. Real shame it's next to never brought outside of Japan. Psychological problems and society issues ahoy.
I'd love to see the novelizations brought here, at least. Or an anime for the first one. I'd love to hear Giygas talk.

It's funny that they remove religious relics and beer but they keep the word "Drugs" and use the words "sexy", "crap" and even refer to a crazy cult. Does this infringe Nintendo's censor policy?

No, they wanted to keep itoi's masterful work intact.
BTW there is only one talking monkey in the game, it's just that the chosen 4 can talk to animals.
And Giygas' story is amazing if you've played Earthbound Zero, The unreleased yet official english translation of Mother. The game's so deep.
