After months of constantly borrowing my friends wii, today i just got my very own Wii!! ;D but enough about that. So I have a Wii now, i just wanted to ask, what good stuff can I use it for, besides from gaming of course. Meaning, what channels are good, what updates should i get ( should i update at all), and if you guys believe on Wii hacking ( sounds fishy to me), and other important stuff a new wii owner should know. What about VC, any info and details?, good games perhaps? I didn't bother learning these important things because my friend usually took care of those minor details, but since i got one of my own, i have to fend for myself now, so can any of you guys help me out here? advice, tips?

Well, the first thing I'd recommend is to check out Lost Winds on WiiWare (available through the Wii Shop). If you're in any way questioning why you have a Wii, then that game should calm your fears. As for other channels, for a while I played around with the Voting Channel and Mii Contest Channel, but I've kinda lost interest in them more recently. I don't use the others often. Virtual Console? Well, there's just far too many options now, and far too many good games. You will just have to go and browse - and if you're after detailed coverage then I recommend VC-Reviews for everything Virtual Console.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up!, but whats your opinion on Wii hacking, personally I'm distasteful towards this, but I'm just curious what it can do?

It's a world I do not take part in and do not understand - but in today's world of downloadable updates, I think you're risking way too much.

For me, I don't use anything that are unofficial, i.e. I don't do hacking.
Basically, this is what I do and do not accept:
Software: ACCEPT Nintendo DECLINE Licensed by Nintendo (basically I don't buy them unless they are really good; which had not happened at all ever since I got Melee) DECLINE Unofficial
Hardware: ACCEPT Nintendo ACCEPT Licensed by Nintendo DECLINE Unofficial

Okay I got the warning, tnx alot guys!, as for regular updates, should I? ( eg, is an earlier patch better then a latter one?) I wouldn't sweat over it. I have the latest Wii update and it works fine. Besides, even if you don't update online, game discs carry the latest system software and force you to upgrade before you can play the game. And don't let YL scare you away from third-party games. He's just a fanboy.

DECLINE Licensed by Nintendo (basically I don't buy them unless they are really good; which had not happened at all ever since I got Melee) I'm sorry. That's the stupidest thing I have EVER heard. So you don't buy any third party software as a matter of principle?! That really is... astoundingly retarded.

as of unofficial hardware I see no problem with that. I got a madcatz memory card for GC back in '04 and it still works fine. The only games that have become erased is Simpsons Hit & Run and Spiderman 2 and those games I used the action replay together with the memory card.
..and what is this thread doing in classic nintendo?

The channels are mostly useless without an Internet connection.
Mii Channel - Create and edit Mii avatars. Photo Channel - Access photos from an SD card and look at them on your TV screen. (I've never used it.) Shop Chonnel - Purchase Virtual Console and WiiWare games, as well as other stuff. You can also download new channels from here, and they're usually free. (The Internet channel is 500 Wii points.) Forecast Channel - Current weather information and an interactive map. News Channel - Current news stories from around the world. Internet Channel - Surf the Internet on TV with an Opera browser. Everybody Votes - Vote in polls, predict outcomes, and suggest your own poll questions. Check Mii Out - It's basically a Mii popularity contest. You can show off Mii avatars you create, or compete in challenges to create certain types of Miis. Nintendo Channel - Mostly previews and videos of current and future games. You can also download DS game demos, which is nice. I haven't checked out the new statistics stuff, though.
And that's about it, I think.

Is the Wi-Fi connection on your Wii very fast and good? If not, then I guess you'll have to use a Wi-Fi booster. Most people said that the Windsurfer reflector works well, but I've done something similar and it worked a bit better than before. Right now, I'm still trying to find the best ways to boost the Wi-Fi connection in order to connect better on the Internet using the Wii, so I can play some good online multiplayer.

Well about that, yes my Wifi is good, but I was just wondering, is brawl or Mario Kart wii, even possible with zero lag?

I've been disconnected a few times in MK Wii but it hasn't lagged. In the Wi-Fi menu the game freezes sometimes for me (does anyone else have this problem).
