Today I stumbled upon the trivia section in Wario Land 4's Wikipedia article, and I read something very interesting. The old archaeologist who appears in the bonus rooms in the game is actually from the Japan-only Game Boy game Kaeru no Tameni Kaneha Naru, or looks identical to the scientist who appears in this game. That's the scientist from Wario Land 4:
So I quickly looked on the named game's official Japanese site where I found this image of the scientist, whose name is Dr. Arewo Shitain. (the translator tells so)
Looks VERY similar, doesn't he? If the translator spits out the right words, the Japanese Wikipedia even implies that both scientists are the same person. That's definitely an important cameo, Dr. Arewo Shitain's return after almost 10 years!
Anyways, I would like to know how this guy looks in the actual game or what role he plays? I never played Kaeru no Tameni Kaneha Naru.

That's pretty awesome. And ironic, I was on a site the other day that claimed it was "Professor Scienstein". I always thought this characters was a little too awesome to be just a nameless old guy in a Wario game.
I'm always amazed when cameos like this are found when the game is over half a decade old. I always wondered who the scientist guy was... Grandy, you're knowledge of these Wario cameos is very impressive. Fry has his work cut out for him when his next site update comes along! Off topic, at the top of the thread, there's an ad for a 20th Century Masters CD for some band I've never heard of called Cameo. The album art is unintentionally hilarious:
This just came to my mind: You know, there are Frog Switches that start the timer and Frog Coins to buy items in the Item Shop? It's not important for the gameplay or storyline that those are symbolized by frogs, it could be anything else. But that could also be another reference to Kaeru no Tameni Kaneha Naru (For the Frog the Bell Tolls), where frogs are VERY important. Since a notable character from the named game appears in Wario Land 4 and the Kaeru character designer worked on it, I think it's clear that this is a possible reference. Well, maybe not clear enough for NinDB.
On a side note, you can see the scientist sometimes playing with a Game Boy Advance.

nocturnal YL: Rune Factory 4 Special runs at 720p60. Fire Emblem Three Houses is a weird case; it looks like 900p30 to me, but because of the way the edge of the models are drawn, the graphics end up looking very ugly.

Nester the Lark: I've been doing the same thing I do every time I consider getting Smash Ultimate: playing Smash for Wii U. It turns out there are still plenty of people playing it online. Makes me curious about Splatoon 1.

Nester the Lark: The online also worked better than I remember. Maybe because there are fewer people...?

Nester the Lark: My skill curve in Smash Bros seems to be the opposite of other games: the more I play, the worse I get.

Nester the Lark: TIL I had not yet unlocked all the stages in Smash for Wii U. Just unlocked the last one today, six years after getting the game.

Nester the Lark: If you want a new perspective on your own Mario Maker levels, just wait more than three years before playing them again.

nocturnal YL: This kind of reminds me of modern 3D printing, where the software needs to formulate the steps for replicating the object rather than just going in a simple 2D matrix manner as in inkjet printing. Nice video.

Evie the Mother Hen ❤✿: From the looks of it we could create a Pokémon Family ROM hack, FE Family, etc.; but if the number of stiching points was changed from the original design you'd need to fix that with more hacking.

nocturnal YL: I settled on the games I'll showcase for my NinDB Top 25. I've tried a lot of games, but a list of favourites is going to be imbalanced regardless. There are absolutely no NES, N64, DS and original Game Boy games in my list.

nocturnal YL: Given that I just said what my favourite games are not long ago, my list will be unsurprising. Now, should I attempt to rank them? What aspects should I highlight to make them more interesting? Hmm…

Nester the Lark: Remember the "Everybody Votes" channel on the original Wii? There was a section where you could submit your own suggestion for a poll. I seem to recall two of my suggestions being used, but I only remember what one of them was.

Nester the Lark: Here's an archive of results from the Everybody Votes channel. I found my poll question in the US English section for September 1, 2009.

nocturnal YL: Do you consider yourself to be more of a ... Romantic: 39.1% Realist: 60.9% This one, right? So… what's your own vote to that question? (I'd have picked realist.)

Nester the Lark: ^ At the time, I think I picked romantic. Not sure what I'd pick today. I feel like I'm somewhere in between.
