Uh-huh... OK, so I know what a canal boat is now. I think everyone can sleep secure with that knowledge... In case you were wondering people... here's a little quote from www.canals.com : "This is a vacation that's definitely not for everyone. If you like to spend your vacation at the beach, or playing endless rounds of tennis or golf, or dashing from one sight to another, this may not be for you. But if cruising along a narrow waterway at 3-4 miles per hour sounds appealing to you, perhaps you should read on." Sounds like a thrill ride! (Don't worry, I know it's suposed to be a relaxing trip... I just though that paragraph was funny... ;D)

It is supposed to be relaxing... like a very slow cruise along a very narrow river. The boat we were on was nice and long, so quite comfy. However, you still have the locks to open... and they can be murder on the arms and back. Especially when you have as many to do as we did.
Oh, and then my girlfriend talked me into walking alongside the boat for two hours. And we only got back last night and now I have to go to work. I'm pooped. I could do with a holiday to get over the holiday!

So may I ask which particular part of the midlands you were floating down? You might have been quite close to my little home town.

We went from Rugby to Aylesbury, down the Grand Union and into the Aylesbury Arm.
What little town might that be? (You can send me a personal message if you don't want to let everyone know where you live).

Its fine, I can reveal my location here (its not like anyone cares)
I hail from the busy town of Cheltenham, in the "heart of the cotswolds". We are famous for the Cheltenham horse races, Cheltenham Festival of Literature, and an unfair reputation of being posh.
