It all arose when I wrote a completely BS summary to Mario Galaxy on Wikipedia in response to my brother who thought Rosalina was evil.
I quickly reverted it but it got me thinking about the cliffhanger ending. So, next day in the car ride to Baton Rouge for Christmas, I planned out "The Space Between Spaces: A Super Mario Adventure", a Mario game heavily based on story. It involves Mario and Bowser each getting along. It explores their back history and some "tragic past" incident they need to overcome.
The story goes along that Mario and Luigi's parents were killed in a tragic accident, and Mario and Luigi join a gang called the Plumbers. The Plumbers all wore different colored hats. Mario was a red "M", Luigi was green "L", Wario was a yellow "W", and Waluigi had a purple reverse L. There was also Bob, a guy with a blue "B", and the mysterious black "X" who wore a hoodie and an obscured face. The Plumbers all wore gloves to perpetrate crimes with. This is also where Mario got hooked on "magic mushrooms".
Mario and Luigi are arrested, and escape with the help with a mysterious wizard. Unfortunately, Mario and Luigi cannot return to this world, where they are wanted criminals.
The game also involved Bowser's wife, and why she left him. I only got a certain length before I realized that no matter what, I could not sufficiently make a compelling story and in the end would just become bad fanfiction.
