I had a little look, and I see other people have made several topics for various things, so I figured I'd just do it. Explanation here, since I don't want to explain again (by the way, it looks like the problem might be sorted soon, but I want to do this anyway).

I've had this in mind for a long time, because I got a lot of requests for non-Nintendo characters for the last project. I'm going to create another similar background, but this time I want to fill it with characters from across the world of console gaming. And I want to make this a community thing! Instead of just going off and doing my own thing, I'm only going to draw characters that have been requested. That means I need you guys to help me out!

Now, to stop it getting out of hand, I've got a few rules.

1) The character must have been the main playable character of a game. Using Mario and its expanded universe as an example, this means Mario, Luigi, Peach, Wario, Yoshi, Toad (for Wario's Woods), Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong are all eligible. For games with a shared star role, or where there is no clear star, it'll be the character the cursor starts on in the select screen, the character at the top, left or top left when no characters are unlocked, or player 1's character. Nameless heroes are okay. For games with user-created characters, like PSO, the first choice there is fine. For more random ones like Animal Crossing and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, I'll start a file and mash A until I get a character, then draw that.

2) They must be from a licensed game on a Nintendo, Sega, Sony or Microsoft console or handheld. I thought a lot about this, but I don't really want to delve into the ridiculous amounts of computer system games out there. Besides, most of the more notable ones have had console releases at some point, anyway.

3) They must have originated in video games. No Mickey Mouse, Homer Simpson, Batman or so on. It's world of GAMING, not world of everything ever. If they originated in a computer system game, but have appeared in a console game, they're fine. If the series didn't originate as a game, but the character debuted in one, that's fine too.

Unlike the World of Nintendo project, I'm going to allow duplicate characters, so long as it's obvious they're supposed to be different people. This means, if Ocarina of Time Link is already there, feel free to suggest Four Swords Link too! Multiple Mega Men ahoy!

This is doubling as a way for me to broaden my horizons, so please go ahead and suggest obscure stuff. But not just obscure stuff. We need a good amount of Marios and Master Chiefs too. So whether it's from a game that's popular, obscure, old, new, good or bad, just... go for it. As long as I think it fits the rules above, I'll do it. Go nuts.

Heh, I wouldn't call Phoenix Wright obscure, Wildcat. I don't know what the situation is where you are, but the newest one has been in the DS charts over here for a loooong time.

So it's more of a specific character, I'll make the Slime Rocket from Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime. Otherwise, those're great. Thanks!

So, we can't pick user-defined characters, like nameless RPG heroes or something? They at least have to have their own name?

No, nameless heroes are okay too. I just went with Rocket over regular Slime for preference, they look identical, anyway. Is there even a game that stars a nameless Slime? I'm not sure.

In that case, how about a Clavat from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles? I always liked the character designs in that game. I don't think there's really a default character, but if you just keep pressing the A button during character creation, you get the Male Cowlick Clavat (the one on the far left in this picture). Personally, I'm partial to the Cap Clavat (fourth from left), but Cowlick is probably more iconic to the game.

Yep, the "just keep pressing A" method is a good enough "first character on the select screen" for me. I meant to mention that in the rules, because I'd thought about it in relation to Phantasy Star Online.

Heh. Well, I guess you're right about Phoenix. I figured at the time that maybe the two boards I frequent know of the series, but I wasn't 100% sure at the time if the series was huge, like Mario or Sonic or something. So I figured obscure would be a better fit. No biggie either way, and I look forward to seeing them drawn out! ^_^

I've yet to play any of those. I did like the design of Sparkster back in the day. Hopefully Konami will get those up onto the VC soon.
