Well I think that will be really tough to find, however it would be a great find if you could have it on the site as no other sites seem to have the quotes translated yet... Anyway, here's one which I think I could be way off on... could Title defence Soda Popinski be a reference to the arcades Vodka Drunkenski? I only say this as Vodka has blue gloves, and Soda's dressed in blue for the TD match Picture here punchout.vgfort.com/arcade_vodka_drunkenski.php Oh also two which I haven't seen mentioned. Firstly pressing - at the ringside part heals you like in Punch-out and pressing 1 and 2 when an opponent is knocked down gives you health back as in SP SNES. Possible references/Easter eggs?

They aren't "references", they're returning gameplay elements, duh.

Fair enough about TD, but the Vodka colour scheme's still a possible reference (although pushing it probably)
The healing methods are both things most people wouldn't think to do, and are surely most likely there as nods to the games in the series before it (IMO)

They're returning gameplay elements. The Konami code has appeared in every friggin one of their games since Contra, is that a reference or a returning element? You tell me.

Ease up on that aggression, eh? No need to get huffy at him. (And just to set the record straight, the Konami code has not been in every Konami game since Contra, and Gradius started the whole thing. Here's an incomplete list...notice the lack of Castlevania games for example. Just so you know)

I was exaggerating. The point is gameplay mechanics get carried over from one game to another, so calling it a "past reference" is stretching it a little too thin.

I'm aware of what you were doing. You don't have to be so harsh was my point. I agree with you on your point. To use a different example, saying that Mario can jump on enemies in New Super Bros. Wii is not an easter egg, because he's done that in practically all the Super Mario games. But my choice of words and your choice are very distinct, and yours were more of an attack on him for being (in your view) ignorant. You don't have to do that. And that's all I was saying. I did add in the snippet about the code's origin and use, but that was more knowledge sharing than anything else.

I'm sorry. I wasn't going to reply as I couldn't be bothered to sit here arguing, but comparing my comment to saying Mario can jump is kinda taking it too far. I said about something that is a cheat essentially, sure it's probably in the manual (I haven't looked) but it's hardly like I said 'There's a star punch in the game, and there was one in the previous game so that must be a reference.' It's still a hidden extra that most likely wouldn't be in there if it weren't in reference to the originals. Anyway, clearly I'm wrong so I'm just going to leave it at that.

Well, that's a solid point. I was comparing my bit to Man-Frog's comment, to be honest. XD No offense meant. I guess a better comparison to yours would be something like Samus losing her armor in the end the faster you beat the Metroid games - nothing directly mentioned in any of the games, but a secret that occurs nevertheless in several of them (although it's been toned down some in the more recent Metroid titles). But that's still not much of a code...

well I mean surely that in itself is an easter egg (the Samus being suitless in the ending)? Anyway, it's Fry's site, I'm just putting the suggestion out there about the two health regeneration tricks in Punch-out. If he feels it is or isn't worth mentioning it's up to him. Also don't worry, I wasn't offended.

Like I said: recurring gameplay mechanic.

Man-Frog, you don't need to be a douche about it.
I do agree, it's just a returning gameplay element. And I'm stripping the Easter Eggs off the site (seriously, who uses NinDB for Easter Eggs? Nobody's ever submitted one).
But the Vodka Drunkenski is a possibility. Might be worth mentioning.

Considering the nature of Vodka (IE, he was censored into Soda Popinski) I think it might be worth mentioning. Seriously, how many other Nintendo characters have been censored into other characters with more than one appearance?

I don't know how a name change makes him into another character entirely. He does make a clear reference to drinking vodka even in the US release of the NES game.
Er...s....sorry.
Wait...seriously? Does that mean all those Easter Eggs that are already on the old site were found by only you?

Yeah, all the Easter Eggs on NinDB were found and added by me. Mainly nabbed from GameFAQs and a couple of other sites. The only time anyone has suggested any more is for a Smash Bros. game.
