I also have grief with Cloud's personality (rather, his lack thereof), the fact that he's both an anime cliche and a JRPG cliche, and no effort has been made in the past, what, thirteen years to change that. Sephiroth and Leon are guilty of this also. Sure, they may not have been cliches at the time, and may in fact have been the characters to set the standard for those cliches, but the fact that they haven't been bettered and drawn out of those roles given how many Another Clouds, Another Sephiroths and Another Leons there have been over the years annoys the ungodly piss out of me. While I'll say the same thing about Final Fantasy VII and infact most JRPGs for following the same pattern, the game has already been said and done and there's nothing that can really change that fact. But given how frequently Cloud and Sephiroth in particular are used (all the moviegame spin-offs/sequels, Kingdom Hearts), there is all the opportunity in the world to make them characters worth having an interest in. And yes, I'm in pompous author mode. |

Well, I wouldn't give the Cloud in Kingdom Hearts much credit. He's basically Vincent trapped in Cloud's body. You should really play FF7, it's only 10 bucks off Playstation Network, so if you manage to get a new PSP or PS3, you should definitely try it out  |

The traditional exceptions to that are Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia and Super Mario RPG - they're the only JRPGs I've actually played start to finish while staying awake the whole time. XD The M&L games don't knock me out, but I've never beaten them. And I'm starting to have trouble classifying TWEWY as an RPG anyway because it's so different from the norm, so there you go. (And yes, I have beaten TWEWY.) |

It's funny because, while I generally agree with this, some of my favorite games ever are from the Breath of Fire series. And they're about the most generic JRPG's you could possibly play. XD And to get back on topic, hmm... This games demo is quite a bit better than the last one, but considering it has a god-awful roster, i'm gonna stick with Brawl TYVM. (although I might have to give it a go if the rumored Homestar Runner character pack becomes reality) |
