I'm surprised this wasn't posted sooner. I figured you guys would be all over this.
I've heard all sorts of rumours about what this mode is, ranging from just similar gameplay to a full 3D remake.
I suppose we won't know till the October conference.

If Takamaru shows up atleast I'll finally know what colour his hair's supposed to be. Official art either had it black or blue, like his ingame sprite.
This is important!

Wouldn't Takamaru's appearance in Captain Rainbow be more.... canon?

So in other words we'll get Takamaru as a crossover character to make up for no online or some bullshit?
Oh, Nintendo. You ignore the masses but splooge square in the fanboys' faces, each and every time.
I suppose this might be like another Fight Night>Punch-Out deal. Maybe. We only assume that was an influence, of course.

Yes, it sounds very much like the Super Punch-Out deal. So there's a Murasame Castle mode? I'm unclear whether this means the original game will be in it, or Takamaru will be a 3D playable character... or both?!
Still, it's strange Nintendo's giving this series so much attention lately, considering they haven't touched it for so long.

...it is bizarre, though I wouldn't put TOO much stock in it. My assumptions always lie with the other developers being the nostalgic ones that coerce Nintendo into these things

Haha, quite possibly... although given Nintendo's reputation for being difficult to coerce, I'd suspect there's a 2-way nostalgic love-in here

According to the two characters 鷹丸 next to him, which are his name, it IS Takamaru! Amazing!

Aye, that's the one! He's looking like he's had a Link/Pit makeover! He has to be a shoe-in for SSB4 NOW! (if it ever happens...)

You know what surprises me most about this? That GoNintendo got this news from us instead of the other way around.

Woah, wtf. He's all.... badassed. I like it, but damn is that a realistic-looking Takamaru. I doubt this is how Brawl will present him, but I LOVE it. First Mac in Fight Night, now this... Makes you think. Urban Champion in Virtua Fighter

Holy God he's in the same pose as his original art. He looks good, but a younger, more teenaged look would probably suit him better. His face looks too haggard and worn, and while chasing down a demon-alien-monster would definately do that, he looks like he's been doing it for 22 years.
