From Joystiq.com: Earlier today, IGN posted a trailer for the oft-rumored remake of the classic Nintendo 64 shooter, GoldenEye. (You've probably heard of it. You very probably spent many of your youthful nights playing it until you fell asleep.) The game is being ported exclusively to the Wii, and has received a fairly noticeable facelift during its transformation. That is to say, a figurative facelift (it's prettier!) and a literal facelift, as Pierce Brosnan has transmogrified into current Bond actor, Daniel Craig.
IGN's trailer has been pulled down by Activision, but a few wise GoldenEye fans managed to capture it while it was still up. You can check out a copy of the trailer posted after the jump. Don't worry -- we're sure any missing details will be provided in the coming, megaton-filled days.Source, video. It's fair to take this with a grain of salt. We all know how much IGN likes to make shit up, and to be honest the video itself looks off.

Well, I thought it looked fairly legit. We'll just have to see.

As long as you can friggen aim below your standard aiming height this time. Mountain man Jaws could hardly hit anybody, hell it was IMPOSSIBLE to hit Oddjob with that guy.

Wait, didn't Rare make that game? Something smells remarkably of fish.
EDIT: Never mind, it was just me. ANYWAYS.
I should hope this is as good as I imagine. Rare deserves nothing less.

I dunno, there's just a lot that's really weird about this trailer. The opening part, with the people in that conference room, makes it feel like a CollegeHumor video. The "game modes" they display are the ones people loved the most...and even then, one of the ones they mentioned was "Paintball," which was a cheat, not a game mode. It mentioned only eight characters in multiplayer, when there were at least two dozen in the first Goldeneye (including, like, Civilian A and such) - and didn't you have to unlock Jaws and Oddjob? The only way it could be more conspicuous is if they did something with the Moonraker lazor. And like I said, we all know how fond IGN is of making shit up around E3 time.
I could be wrong, but right now I'm pretty confident this is just an IGN hoax.

Perhaps. My concern was the fact that it was a Rareware game, which would be problematic if it were another franchise, but after posting I remembered that Rareware doesn't own the rights to Bond games. That was the smell I picked up on. There's still lingering suspicion, but not on the fact that it's not Rareware.

Yeah, like I said in the E3 topic, I have a lot of shit to eat this year. XD
The dam entry is fascinating, but I'm a little bummed by the low map count myself. Hopefully more will be unlockable...and they should at least have Facility!

I'm not sure I should get this game. I've never played the original one, and I'm not a big shooter fan (I can play shooters, but I'm never good nor obsessed like other shooter players). Though, of course, everyone always seems to speak about GoldenEye007 when thinking in shooters and the memories it brings them, so it must have been good/epic...
What do you guys think? Should I buy it when it comes out?

To be honest, I couldn't tell you for sure. The original GoldenEye is one of those FPS games you should play even if you're not an FPS fan; if you have access to an N64 and the game, definitely give that a shot. We've only seen a little bit of this game in action, so it's hard to make a judgment call. Nonetheless, don't write the remake off entirely; who knows how it'll come out, you know? The remake has huge boots to fill, but it could wind up being great in its own right.

I concur with TEi - while Activision is remaking the game, it's not going to be a carbon copy of Rare's by any stretch of the imagination. In my opinion, it's a homage to the N64 classic. It will have similar weapons, some similar level locations (but as I read at Kotaku, even these will be radically different), and a similar plot (that's going to be reworked), but Eurocom's going to be doing more or less their own thing, following Rare's scent but taking their own course most of the time. If you haven't played Goldeneye N64 by now, you may not understand the excitement, but I'd recommend tracking a N64 and a cartridge down and giving it a shot. It's not as mind-blowing as it was back then, but it's more than sufficient. As for this, I'd wait and see how Eurocom continues to approach this. I'm curious in the title, myself, and have been following up on it when details trickle out. I hope it's a fun game when it's released.

If they add Gamecube/Classic controller compatibility to this game I'm happy. Who knows it might actually work with a Wiimote this time, but if it ends up like Red Steel (total ass) then atleast we can play it the old skool way.

IGN preview.Dainel Craig and Judi Dench are providing their voices for the game which is pretty awesome. Also their appears to be a DS version in development too.

Here's some gameplay from the first stage taken from Comic-Con - it starts about 2:26.
I’m pretty impressed. It’s radically different, but still looks fun as hell. The major setpieces from the Dam level remain similar to their N64 counterparts, but there’s a massive truck shoot-out in the middle of the stage between the first tower and the dam itself. I’m digging how Eurocom’s set up the gameplay thus far, too – destructible environments, action commands, and the Breach action that slows down time are not anything new, but they, from appearances, are fine additions.

I can play GoldenEye 007 on the Wii easily. Just put The Homebrew Channel on it, load it up with an N64 emulator and a ROM.
