I'm actually all for more obscure characters getting in. I would love to be able to play as Rex or Boom Boom. But not at the expense of certain other characters, and this is where Mario Kart 7 screwed up for me. I don't have a problem with Honey Queen being in there, but I do have a problem with her being in there at Waluigi's expense. I know a few people who usually play exclusively as Waluigi.

How do we know they did not cut Waluigi for Wiggler? Metal Mario? Lakitu? Why specifically Honey Queen? Why specifically Waluigi? Did Nintendo say they cut Waluigi for Honey Queen? How do we know they didn't cut Birdo, Baby Mario, Toadette, etc. for anyone?

Maybe I should reword my point. Waluigi is not in the game and Honey Queen is. Therefore, Honey Queen is in the game, but Waluigi is not.
Do you need me to explain further?

Are you retarded.
Ridley is not a Mario series regular. If Ridley were in all Mario spinoffs prior to Mario Kart DS and suddenly disappeared there would be some precedent for your statement, but he's not. He's not in even one of them. So instead your statement is the dribblings of a madman.
Waluigi has been playable in most, if not all Mario party games since he was introduced, but is notably absent from Mario Kart 7, in spite of Honey Queen, a character who appears briefly in one stage in two games, being in there.
How are you not getting this.

I think he meant ROB instead of Ridley in a smash bros game
It'd be more along the lines of [new zelda villain X] showing up instead of Ganondorf though

Gotta love how Arcadenik always manages to turn things into a Smash Bros. discussion.
Before that happens I'll say something I forgot to say before: Most of what Teev mentioned in the first post are reason why I prefer other racing games like Diddy Kong Racing and Crash Team Racing.

On one side, I love it how everyone get's their panties in a bunch because certain character was in the game and others were not. But at the same time, I can't help but feel a sad to know Waluigi, the undisputed King of Mario Spinoffs, isn't in the game. Sure, [opinion]Queen Bee and Metal Mario are terrible for playable characters, but Lakitu is definitely a good character for the Mario Kart series.[/opinion] Many Lakitu lost their jobs thanks to the economy new underwater mechanic.
Also got to agree with the Music being very forgettable in this Mario Kart and the gameplay can be very annoying against bots, but not against people (the game is intended to be a party racer, so it's the same thing as playing SSB with items). For the music, there are some songs that stand out, but not as many as past Mario Kart games. But as for the tracks, it all depends on how well defined the character is. For example, Toad Turnpike and Waluigi Pinball never bothered me because Toad and Waluigi are virtually empty husks, while DK Pass will never truly feel right as a track because it has almost nothing to do with Donkey Kong and his series.

Crash Team Racing was perfect. Mainly for it's amazing adventure mode but also because every character played noticeably different. Another thing about MK7 that confuses me is...why remove the fake item box? It became a mainstay in the series and is the perfect item. Instead we're given Lucky Seven (which is decent) and Tanooki Leaf (which is horrible). I miss putting fake item boxes in with a group of regular ones and watching friends try to grab it....

Ah, okay then. If we're going for a Smash Bros. analogy, Arcadenik, I think it'd be more like Luigi not being in the game and... Honey Queen being in. The Ridley/R.O.B. thing isn't the same as the Waluigi/Honey Queen thing, because Ridley has never been in and R.O.B. is actually significant.

Good point. Like I mentioned above, these really dumb characters don't bother me as much if they have the established ones in there too.

So how to do a perfect Mario Kart?
Hmm...
Characters MUST CREATE HYPE.
Mario Kart-roster should stop being just stupid fillers and unimportant characters-filled roster all the time. Remember when Sakurai tried to do "Toon Sheik" along with Toon Zelda in Brawl, but it was then cut? That's what Baby Daisy's mostly about to me. And I must admit, that's annoyingness to extreme.
Of course, there'll always be cuts done, that's a rule. But still, it shouldn't mean we get much more crappier, unoriginal characters for that place (Waluigi > Honey Queen)
And now, they must add characters that would create HYPE! Nintendo seemingly treats Mario Kart's characters like freaking trash now, because as more characters are shown, the more unhyping the game turns out to be. Or maybe Nintendo doesn't just care, and thus I have no reason to complain.
I mean, think about a long-lost fan favorite being brought to Mario Kart... let's say, Wart. Just think how many would go enthuthiastic on that choice.
Modes MUST PROLONG THE GAME'S FUN.
Gameplay-modes again, they should try to give us VARIETY of modes to keep the 1-player replayable for very long time. MK DS and MKSC did this most best, and to lesser extent there's MKWii's 1P VS which can be customised too.
Here's what I think they should add for us:
1P GRAND PRIX 1P VS 1P FREE RUN 1P TIME TRIAL 1P BATTLE (Balloon, Coin, Bob-Omb Battle, no restricted to teams, NO MORE TIME LIMIT!)
MP GRAND PRIX MP VS MP BATTLE
I'm gonna do gameplay features next sometime soon and then move to the bad stuff that should be nerfed, improved, or just get eliminated overall.

Honestly I don't think most Nintendo developers care about the characters. That's probably why we'll never see Waluigi outside of Kart racing and sports titles. As a matter of fact most Nintendo characters are now taking backseat to Miis!
I was worried Mario Kart might someday become "Mii Kart"!
Anyway here's something that bothers me about Mario Kart 7. You join a friend who is racing online instantly. However they don't inform your friend you are racing them!
I've already raced TV Eye five times and I don't think he ever noticed once! I also joined a race some DKVine member was doing, he didn't realize either!

I'm glad there isn't any Legend of Mii yet. Super Mii Bros and Miitroid are shown as demo (either they won't really happen, or Miitroid will end up in U Play / Hajimete no Wii U or something), and Mii Kart... 7 is starting to approach to that. Mii Party totally happened, although the original Mario Party is still there.
Playing with friends? I just formally create a room and ask them to join. Simply joinging the friend in an online room simply means lots of other characters will crash in, all determined in beating you senseless. And losing to strangers isn't always fun for me.

I have some gripes with the series myself.
On the SNES and N64, it mattered which character you chose to play as, because they affected the gameplay. This was pretty standard for a while, but now the character is essentially a weight class for the different karts, which are much more important.
So while Waluigi is awesome, anyone else on the bike I use Waluigi on is also awesome. However, Waluigi is extra awesome because he's an ugly, skinny, evil dude who says "Waluigi Time!" which is funny. The characters are the noises they make.
But why are the characters so meaningless?
A point Teev made back on page 1, why aren't levels themed more after the characters they're based on? Sure, some are. Mario Circuits tend to take place in Mario-themed areas, usually with Peach's Castle. But why were DK's levels mountains for 3 games? I don't associate DK with mountains! He's girders or jungles!
Additionally, can anyone explain Daisy levels? We know Daisy is the princess of Sarasaland, so why are none of her levels even vaguely associated with the one game she's been in? It would give me a retro kick if her levels had anything to do with Super Mario Land. I guess they just make some standard levels then stick a character's name onto them... Which is dumb.
