At the moment I am working through the Top 10 Namco characters from the interesting poll results. While I'm doing that I figured I may as well run the next poll! This time I want to know your Top 10 Sega characters! The rules:1. Pick your Top 10 Sega characters. The order doesn't matter. 2. If the game isn't named after them, make sure to include the name of the game/series as well. 3. You may only pick ONE character per series in your list. The results of the poll will be compiled on The Chart, which I will keep up to date regularly. The top rated characters in the Top 10 series will be drawn by me. Need inspiration? Here's the index to Wikipedia's list of Sega games.Still having trouble coming up with 10? Then why not check the chart and fill up your roster with characters you would like to see me draw. The more challenging the better! My Top 101. Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Alex Kidd 3. AiAi (Super Monkey Ball) 4. Vyse (Skies of Arcadia) 5. Beat (Jet Set Radio) 6. NiGHTS 7. Alis Landale (Phantasy Star) 8. Clockwork Knight 9. Orta (Panzer Dragoon Orta) 10. Bin & Pin (Dynamite Dux)

This might be a better reference, since it covers just Sega franchises rather than every game that appeared on a Sega platform (although it seems to be missing a few). But anyway, here are my votes! Sonic the HedgehogJoe Musashi from ShinobiBlaze Fielding from Streets of RageRyo Hazuki from ShenmueG from The House of the DeadEcco the DolphinBeat from Jet Set RadioEpsilon-Eagle from Alien SoldierAnd the most obscure Sega mascot of all: AstalFinally, I wanted to vote for Asha from Monster World IV, but she might be more of a Westone character than a Sega character since Westone actually owns the copyright. I'll change it if it doesn't count.

Well, I can easily fill out a list of ten for this one. 1. Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Alex Kidd 3. Toejam (apparently not owned by Sega any more, but he hasn't appeared outside of a Sega game yet. Does he count?) 4. Ryo Hazuki (Shenmue) 5. Ristar 6. Axel (Streets of Rage) 7. Ecco 8. Beat (Jet Set Radio) 9. Billy Hatcher 10. Amigo (Samba de Amigo) If Toejam doesn't count, I'll go for Joe Musashi (Shinobi).

Should I feel bad because the only Sega game I have played is Sonic 2 and that happaned 18 years ago? :/
Anyway, my choices are:
Dr. Robotnik/Eggman (Sonic series) I know Sonic is going to win, but eh, I like him better. Ryo Hazuki (Shenmue) Akira Yuki (Virtua Fighter) Beat (Jet Set Radio) Joe Musashi (Shinobi) Larcen Tyler (Eternal Champions) Sakura Shinguji (Sakura Wars) Ecco the Dolphin (Ecco the Dolphin) "Everyone loves dolphin!" Vyse (Skies of Arcadia) Just because I see a lot of people here like his game... Kazuma Kiryu (Yakuza)
I would had put Segata Sanshiro somewhere, but since he was just used for promoting Sega Saturn games wasn't sure if adding him was a good idea. He remains as one of the best things Sega has ever done.

Wow! So many responses so quickly!
Just to clarify, if Sega published it and could feasibly re-publish it on (say) Virtual Console or a Sega compilation, then presumably they still have full or shared rights to it. So Treasure, ToeJam & Earl, etc. are all good to go in.

So Treasure, ToeJam & Earl, etc. are all good to go in. This is where Toejam & Earl is in a weird situation, though. For some reason they were able to release the games on the Virtual Console, but weren't allowed to release them on Xbox Live/PSN or include them in the Sega Mega Drive Collection. No idea what's going on there!

You spelled Opa-Opa wrong. And I know I'm splitting hairs here, but... does Flicky really count as being from its own series? There was one Flicky game, and then Flicky just became part of the Sonic cast, to the point that Flicky's game is usually included in Sonic collections now. Even the artwork you've used there is from Sonic. It's kind of a Dig Dug/Mr. Driller situation. A couple of people actually voted for characters I decided against because I figured nobody would pick them! I see nobody's mentioned Taro Yamada from Rent-a-Hero, though.

It's more of a confusing Mario / Donkey Kong situation. Official art for the original Flicky game is pretty much the same design anyway. I'm going to keep it as is I think.
And thanks, I've fixed Opa-Opa!
There's loads of characters I wanted to do that I couldn't fit on my list. Quite a lot have shown up since, but not all. I've got NO idea how I'm going to pick 10 Nintendo characters when that comes around!!

Hm, I'll think on these and come back. Vyse is a given, though.

Would it be rude to mention that the artwork you've chosen for Joe Musashi is actually Hotsuma from the 2002 Shinobi "reboot"?
Or that Ryo's last name is spelled "Hazuki"?
I almost wanted to vote for Isaac Washington from House of the Dead: Overkill, but I didn't think anyone else would. He's quite possible the greatest potty-mouth ever in video games, but they're both righteous m@*!&rf#&%?^s.
Come on! More votes for Epsilon-Eagle, Astal and Asha!
