Quick update: I haven't forgotten about this, and I still intend to write it, but I'm still working out some details. I thought I would have more time to work on it over the holidays. Silly me.

I should apologize for abandoning this. I did intend to write it, but it's not looking too likely right now. I hope none of you were too excited about it.

...Am I a bad person for expecting this to get abandoned in the first place?

Heh. I think part of the issue was that it wasn't quite shaping up to be the kind of "interactive" fan fic I originally intended. I'd still like to do something like this, but I need to take it back to the drawing board.

Well, what were you thinking it'd be? Interactive story-telling is rather difficult to just...make. Take some inspiration from this for starters, but remember it will get really hard, really fast.

Well, originally, I was thinking back to the couple of attempts at collaborative fan fic writing we did a few years ago (which was, in turn, inspired by the art collabs we did), and I didn't think those really turned out all that well. I decided that the reason it didn't work was because that when the story is being passed around and there's more than one person doing the writing, the result lacks any consistent vision or direction. So, I thought that the way to fix that was to write the story myself, but to have other people provide creative input. That is, have specific elements (even written sections) that represented different members of the community in a similar way to all the different art styles seen in the art collabs. But even with the art collabs, someone has to put it all together, and that was going to be my job. The problem was that no one signed up to contribute. So, then I decided it would be interactive by making it a "choose your own adventure" style story. But I eventually realized that that wasn't what I originally wanted to do. I mean, imagine if no one signed up for an art collab, and then I decided to just draw everything myself anyway. It's no longer a collaboration, so what's the point? And I totally understand that writing fiction is a completely different beast from drawing art, but trying to figure out how to make it work is part of the fun (at least for me ). So, I do have another idea that I think might be a little more clear and motivate people to want to join in, but I need to let it cook a little longer before I try it.
