In an effort to print even more money than anticipated, Nintendo is discontinuing "unpopular" Amiibo's. The first wave Amiibo's facing this scrutiny are Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Marth. Both Marth and Villager are now selling for over $80 on Ebay and Amazon. Most stores are already out of stock. What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I had no intention of owning every Amiibo. Or really any for that matter. Though now that I hear that I'll no longer be able to own some of them if I ever intended to collect them down the line is just...well, it's unfair. I understand that shelf space couldn't handle 50 unique figures, but couldn't Nintendo stick to selling them on their online Store? Do you guys collect them?

I feel I should also post Nintendo's PR response. Not sure if I should believe it over Iwata. Though, I really doubt Nintendo is going to stop making these things.

I don't intend to buy every single one, but only the characters I like. So far I have Link, Marth (I almost didn't get him!), Samus, Fox, and Wii Fit Trainer.
Now that I know that some figures are going to be rare, I think I'm going to invest in some of the figures whom I know will be in short supply like C. Falcon and Little Mac. Could be a good way to make some money.

Just remember Leon, "Mint in box" means the money's in keeping it shut. Personally, I intend to pick up those limited editions, but I don't give a crap about value. I actually want to use them. Of course, that means getting a Wii U...
Currently, I have Peach. And that's it.

I'd really love to own them all now. The problem is, that's like...$500 $640.
Though, I did invest in the Kingdom Hearts HD Limited Collectors Edition which is selling for over $200 now. If I sell it, I'd make a $100 profit...or I can hold onto it and hopefully make more in the future. Gah! It's like a videogame stock market. I hate not having expendable income!

Rereading the first quote, it does sound like they were saying stores are unlikely to order a second shipment of unpopular ones, not that Nintendo aren't planning on producing them. Looks like that's what that Dave guy is saying too. They'll probably still be available on Nintendo's online store or something.

Zelda, Little Mac, and Diddy Kong are now available in North America. If you want a Little Mac, get one NOW, because like Marth not very many of him have been manufactured. Diddy Kong is also in short supply. Zelda on the other hand is about as common as Link.

I realize posting infrequently yields to less cred on most sites, but there's really only a small group of people who post here. So my question, nay, my plea is that if anyone in the most unlikely of instances should come across a Marth who would be willing to buy it and sell it to me (including an extra something for you aside from straight cost) I would be most grateful

I would suggest you look into importing one from Europe. From everything I've seen, he still can be found fairly easily in France and Germany.

I see all 14 (of Japan's Wave 1) in Hong Kong. I guess you can try PlayAsia (Hong Kong-based importer) if you really run out of options, but I'm not sure about cross-region amiibo compatibility.

amiibos are not region locked, so anywhere you get an amiibo from it will still work.

Well my girlfriend actually ordered me a european one, but I've been able to get all the other ones in their US packaging just by shopping locally, so I was hoping to get a US one to round out my set (I'm not opening them unfortunately, just collecting them so I prefer to have them all match)

Next wave looks pretty good to me! Ness, Lucina, Robin, Wario, Charizard and Pac Man! I'm happy they finished all the Fire Emblem Amiibo before the last wave. There's only another 16 to go before we have the full roster now.

Bill Trinen said that more Marth amiibos will be manufactured for Code Name STEAM, so if you still want a US one keep an eye out.
