That image is pretty accurate. As in whenever a Pokemon article gets posted at, say, Kotaku there's always some schmuck making a longass post how only the first 151 are the REAL mons and the following are uncreative digimon or some shit.
I mean yeah 3rd gen is a little off in general, but like someone here said before (Kirbychu?..) it has more of an exotic vibe going on, taking place on a vulcanic island and all. Personally I think 3rd gen really isn't that bad, most of my misplaced hate actually comes from the crappy transition from 2nd to 3rd gen (Blaziken and Manetric still look like retarded plastic action figures though)
When I think about it I'd say 4th gen's worse. Godawful new 3rd forms and way too many worthless legendaries.

One of the reasons I love the 5th generation so much is because of those parallels...though I am one of the ones who disparages Landorus, Thundurus and Tornadus for being carbon copies. I wouldn't mind if it was just some average set of Pokemon, but considering how - since 3gen - each new set is oversaturated with legendaries, it would have been nice if Landorus et al were, you know, slightly more varied.

Each gen has their share of soulless dot eyes though. I kinda like that, looks goofy The Regi's are pretty lame yeah, but atleast they were a little different in design. Those Black & White weather demons are the worst Also Miltank and Combusken

When I think about it I'd say 4th gen's worse. Godawful new 3rd forms and way too many worthless legendaries. I'd second that. The original designs are great, but they're also quite dull - they could afford to be as in-game they were only ever going to appear in shades of green. The second generation rectified that with a new drawing style that has carried over into all future generations. Gen 2 was a mixed bag in terms of memorable Pokemon. There seemed to be a lot of new grass types who were bland (Sunkern, Chikorita, Bellossom) but then you have Aipom, Sudowoodo, Xatu, Wooper, Octillery, Ursaring... It also had a pretty awesome line-up of legendaries. The Gen 3 designs were generally good. Looking at a list of them now, there's very few that aren't good. And frankly, this generation gave us Ludicolo, so it is automatically awesome as that one design is better than all other Pokemon put together... ;D But I have to agree many of the legendaries are a little disappointing, especially compared to Gen 2... Gen 4 was lazy, however. There are a few good designs in there (Gible family, Drifloon family), but the majority of them are entirely forgettable, including the starters and legendaries. The evolutions of previous generations should have tried to more closely match the designs of the previous generations, as the sudden change from, for example, a knobbly Gen 1 into a made-of-simple-shapes Gen 4 is jarring and weird. Gen 5 isn't perfect, but so many more of the designs stand out. Lillipup might be dull, but Stoutland is memorable. Again with Sandile to Krookodile. And did I mention how much I LOVE TRUBBISH & GARBODOR?! ;D The Gen 5 starters are good, but the legendaries are a bit lacking. Reshiram and Zekrom are pretty cool, and Kyurem is freaking weird, but the rest are a bit "meh" in terms of design. It's the same every generation though. Fact is, people are put off by the designs, but forget about it when they play the games. Then everyone's used to them and we await the next batch to bitch and moan about. I just feel sorry for Vanilluxe.

While Ludicolo has a great design I'm off-put by it's desaturated colors. Gen 4 was a lot more saturated with vivid colors even though they were pretty damn weird.
You know we should have a topic about our favorite Pokemon designs and most hated.

I seem to love most of the most hated 5G pokemon.
Vanillite's evolutionary family? Awesome, it's like a a cute Koffing family. Trubbish's family? Much cooler than Grimer's, and I love Muk Foongus and Amoongus? I love them just by their name, and their design is much better than Voltorb and Electrode's designs Stunfisk? The name seems wanky, but when I first saw its animation, I found it nice. Plus, awesome type combo. Kyurem is such a bad Trio Leader, I seem to love it due to its underdog status. It's not even Uber! And it eats people! How does that not scream awesome into your ears?
But yeah, if there's one thing I agree on, it's that I really don't like the Djinn trio. I guess Tornadus saves himself somewhat, since it's the only naturally Pure Flying Type pokémon ever.
And as for Gen Hate/Love...
Gen 3 was shittasticly dull. Least fun out of every Gen (though Aggron, Sceptile, Blaziken and Cradily will eat you). Gen 4 made real competitive battling real and 5G has had the best story mode since 2G (I rarely went onto Kanto, though. It was soooo dull). I mean, I had to train for some gyms in 5G. When was the last time I did that? Oh, that's right, never. Ever. Fooooreeeeeverrrr. Plus, N > you *puts whimsi-cotton in ear* Hey, you know someone's gunna gripe about N.

Huh, I had the idea Vanilluxe was kinda popular because of it's goofy ass final form. But I'm sure the Lucario crowd finds it repulsive. I like it because it/they look so unfocused and... brainless despite being a giant final form. Kinda reminds me of Warcraft's two headded ogres
