Hey peoples! ;D
OK, I have a question. There's been a bit of talk about the Mario series lately, and all of its spin-offs and so on. And, apart from the core Super Mario platformer series, there are only 2 sub-series that I personally like - the Mario Kart series and the RPG series.
Sp, I was wondering which series you guys preferred as a whole - basically, if you were to choose one as a favourite, then which one?
For the record, the Mario Kart series is as thus: - Super Mario Kart (SNES) - Mario Kart 64 (N64) - Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA) - Mario Kart: Double Dash (GCN) - Mario Kart DS (NDS) --> NOT OUT YET
And, the RPG series is as thus: - Super Mario RPG (SNES) --> NOT in PAL regions - Paper Mario (N64) - Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA) - Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GCN) - M&L2 (NDS) --> NOT OUT YET
So, there are 5 games in each series - one is RPG and the other is awesome multiplayer fun.
Which is your favourite? (I hate these sorts of topics, but I'm trying to decide on something, so thank you for your cooperation).
End! ;D

RPG. Mainly because they all contain platforming action and so fit better with the main series than Mario Kart or any other sports or puzzle spin-off.

Kart, kart, kart, kart, kart. The RPGs are great, but Kart is much, much better.
So, let me guess, Andronicus - you are dropping your idea to collect Metroid and youre idea to get every single version of the "core" Marios for now either the RPG or Kart series?

Hahahahaha!!! ;D (Damn, he's figured out my colelcting habits...) Something like that DIU (but I'm keeping the "core" platformers in there - they are the best games to play!)... You know already, DIU, about the Japanese thing, and well, that would be easier if I focused on Mario and Zelda. Plus, Mario and Zelda have a track record with me. Basically, Zelda is unchanged, but Mario is going through re-assessment. I have to have every Super Mario platformer (cos I love those games!), and will probably have both the Kart and RPG games, but am undecided. The RPG games are great games, but so are the Kart ones (although, I have very few people to play multiplayer with). However, with the on-line stuff coming along... Mario Kart and Smash Bros. would suddenly be on-line... ;D But, yes DIU - you're right. I'm being my usual indecisive self...

Just get every single thing that has the word Mario in it. That includes all the games, the cartoons, the movie, the albums by that dodgy American hip-hop singer, etc. Hell, make it anything that has the same name as any of the characters... so buy some Peaches from your local store, a figure of Luigi from the Simpsons, a petrol pump, etc, etc. Then you'll be covered.... maybe.

Of course! Why didn't I think of that before? Whatever... I'll just get what I get. ;D

Still, regarding the topic, if only one of them were allowed to exist then I'd go for RPG... They're as close as we've gotten to proper Mario games for quite some time. Mario Kart is also awesome, but if you're collecting, I hope you have the room and the funds for a Mario Kart Arcade GP cabinet

Believe you me Fryguy - if those "Mario Kart Arcade GP" machines ever get localised and make their way over here... I'd serious consider saving up for one (like, instead of a new computer or something). I know you'd need 4 to get that ultimate MK experience, but just to have one of those things in my house... *Drool* ;D That said, the likelihood of me ever owning one of those things is VERY small - 0% would be an over-estimation...

I'm an avid basher of RPGs, I despise the genre for the most part. But Mario RPGs are wonderful for some reason, so I'm gonna go with them. Mario Kart is great, but I don't follow the series closely. Honestly I only have SMK and MK:DD!!. Given that Mario Kart DS is reverting to the old formula (I loved Double Dash), I probably won't mess with that.

Even though I'm not a bit fan of RPG games, I still pick that one. I think adventuring suits Mario better than racing

Definitely RPG, even though I don't particularly enjoy typical RPGs.

I can relate Masamune. I really can't stand RPGs - I just can't get into them, and the whole not being able to jump on yoour enemy's head to kill them thing bugs me... I guess being brought up of platformers made me like that approach to taking out the enemies. But, with the Mario RPGs, they seem to have evolved the RPG gameplay to include the jumping and elements of the platforming - it's lke the ultimate blend of genres, and I think that's why they work out so well. That said, the Kart series is a lot of fun to play, but without people to play it with, it can get a little repetitive. But, if you can find people to play it with, it's awesome. Wait... Did I just respond to my own question?

I love both Mario Kart and Mario RPGs. But I think I'll side with the Kart series. First because I love racing games, and second because my house is ALWAYS full of people to play Mario Kart with. I love Mario RPG, but I miss Legend of the Seven Stars. I don't really like the two-fighter format as in Paper Mario and Superstar Saga. I think its about time Nintendo asks the king of RPGS: SQUARE, to make a new Mario RPG, on the REVOLUTION too! How awesome would it be to see Mario's Fire blasts with awesome graphics? Maybe making it like the Final Fantasy games, with the limit breaks and everything. That'd blow my mind away.
