It's so crazy... looks like they've tried a lot of things! I remember it is once rumored that the D pad would be killed. Now I'm glad to see both the D pad and te analog stick is preserved. Whew!

In the beginning "+" and "-" were Start and Select, and the additional A & B are now 1 & 2. I once said to myself, "If they turn the Revolution remote sideways, A & B would be backwards!"

That Starman disk thing reminds me of this article I read in an old NP about the design process of the SNES. It said that at one point an idea was drawn for the console to be shaped like Mario's head.
