I may be going to a rather large flea market this Saturday...the Treasure City Flea Market in Waco...and recently, I've kind of wanted to buy a NES. 1) The quality of the flea market has been declining as of late (yeah, it's a flea market, but there are standards) and I was disappointed at the vendors in 2008. 2) How much should I pay for cartridges or the NES unit (flea market). 3) Is it even worth it? I mean, it would be a bit of a squeeze for the NES to fit in with the Wii and not be a major hassle, and I can play NES games on my Wii via homebrew emulator. 4) Do I really want to collect NES games? I mean, I've always wanted to take up a real collection of some sort, but it's generally a futile money-waster... Please do advise me on such things. Also, the Wii is hooked up to a non 4:3 LCD TV, and frankly, I think NES games look better on CRT.

Meh, I wouldn't. I had that same impulse when I saw a classic Gameboy being sold for 10 bucks, but then I thought, "This thing freakin' drains batteries." Now I have a hacked PSP and never look back.

Yeah, the "I already have a hacked _____ that can play _________ games" is a very strong argument. I mean, I could go halfway and get a NES controller with adaptor.
And ROMs give access to games that I'll never own, ever. Nintendo World Championships 1990 or Stadium Events are too expensive for me.

I like to have actual boxed copies of games on the NES and SNES. There's just something awesome about them. But I rarely play them. I'd much rather play on an emulator or Virtual Console (although I did get my N64 out recently to play through SM64 as it was meant to be played).

...You're right. It's kinda disappointing that you can use controllers via adaptors, but not actual cartridges or other peripherals. The fact that the Wii is the first Nintendo console without any large expansion slot from day one is disappointing!

why in the world would you want a nes dont get me wrong i love nes but it never last that long there was something always wrong with them either one of the pins was messed up
or you get the black screen of death
your best bet to save time and a little bit of cash is just get a emulator or a hack psp or ds or xbox
or hell if you have a cell you could get a emulator for it and play all those old great games that we all fell in love with

I'm a collector so I have 4 NES and a Famicom Disk system. Also I'm a purist. I don't mind playing a few games emulated on other systems, but I rather play on the actual hardware it was programmed for.

Personally, I'd just download them and play them on my computer. 3D console games are a different story, but if you wanna actually play, people remake 8- through 32-bit games for download all the freaking time. Hell, you can find Game & Watch remakes online. If VC doesn't have it, the Internet does.
Now, if you just want to collect, an NES would be valid so you can always have an answer to "Cool, can we play it?"
