Forgive me if this has already been discussed here on these forums, (I can't find any threads discussing this so far) but I've been thinking about this lately, and the more I think about it being likely, there's also a few reasons the original Gameboy & GBColor Pokemon games might not come to Virtual Console on 3DS unfortunately.
One reason is, it's possible they might not, due to Nintendo not bothering to incorporate the "Game Link-up" multiplayer feature to the portable Gameboy Virtual Console games yet.
As we all know, it's required as part of the gameplay, and to trade Pokemon in between the games to "collect them all." (As some Poke'mon are only avalable in certain versions.)
The whole "no game link-up feature" for old portable VC games seems lazy on their part, considering Sega did it easily on their rereleased Game Gear games included in "Sonic Adventure DX" & "Sonic Gems Collection." (Though requiring a split screen, due to them being TV games.)
Of course, VC games being download-games, it's possible someday they could "update" these games with that "link-up" feature to be updated to work on 3DS, and put the updated versions up on the EShop at no extra cost to those who already purchased them.
(Tetris on GB just isn't the same without multiplayer, ya gatta admit. Especially, with the Mario & Luigi only cameos in the game are in 2-player mode)
Meenwhile some hackers have actually accomplished reprogramming it easily for the multiplayer link-up features to work fine with unofficial/illegal Gameboy game emulators/ROMs for the PC.
(I'm not condoning, or condemming using these, but my main point here is, It seems odd for Nintendo to not bother to do, what some "fans" have been able to replicate easily. Especially with the changes they made for some other VC games, like removing ads in "Wave Race 64," and such.)
Another problem that arrises with rereleasing the Gameboy Poke'mon games is Nintendo also refuses to release more then one version of a first-party game on Virtual Console, and this could prove problematic for Poke'mon, with all the versions it has of each game in the series.
This is why we don't see certain games like the SNES version of "Wario's Woods" on VC, or remakes like Super Mario All-Stars, "Tetris & Dr. Mario." Or say "Tetris Attack," because "Pokemon Puzzle League" is pretty much the same game.
Though, oddly, there's quite a few different versions of "Street Fighter 2" on VC. (But that's a third-party game, made by Capcom.)
Anyways, what are your thoughts, opinions on this subject? Do you think these could prevent Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, ect. from getting a rerelease?
