This is an unusual post, as it's half tied into NinDB and half into another project I can see myself working on in the future. While working on NinDB's Nintendo All-Stars section (formerly Nintendo Stars), I have been drawing up Nintendo characters galore. However, just because I'm a big, stinking Nintendo fanboy doesn't mean I don't also love other videogame franchises. And so I have also drawn a number of third-party characters. These will NOT be used on NinDB (don't worry, I'm not pulling an SSBB on you), but I'm tempted to work on a second website that celebrates all videogame heroes. So, what do you think of this idea? It will be like the Nintendo All-Stars section, with profiles of various heroes and villains in each series. But I won't limit myself to Nintendo (although I might limit myself to classic games to start with). But who are your favourite third-party characters? Capcom, Konami, Namco, Hudson, Sega... anyone really. The older the better. Always nice to have a good kick-off point

I've always liked Earthworm Jim and the Lost Vikings from the SNES era. From the NES era, I'd say the guys from Contra, the Bubble Bobble things, staples like Pac-Man, Bomberman and Mega Man, and then there's my new favorite: Karnov!

It's a nice idea.
I used to be a fan of Mortal Kombat; I might even buy Armageddon next year.
Mega Man would deserve some mention, because of all the variations and spin-offs the franchise has had and because it started on the NES. My favorite series was X.
Also, I can't stop mentioning Pac-Man everytime somebody starts the topic of iconic non-Nintendo video game franchises.

Other than Nintendo I don't really like too much of them..... except one. HUDSON SOFT's Bomberman. I like his games a lot. Except for a recent version I've played called Bomberman Portable, I liked the rest of those game; my favourite being Saturn Bomberman.

One minute you're stressed out and overworked by this website, the next you're starting a whole new one. K. Now now, I'm stressed out and overworked by a lot of things. I'm actually considering giving up on redesigning the site altogether. I've got too much other stuff going on to worry about it, and I want to get the site ready for the Wii. Besides, I can make quick fixes here and there instead of worrying about redesigning it all. Sure, it's not the best, but it might have to do for now. And after I've demonstrated some awesomeness with my profile site and VG Heroes, I can give NinDB the facelift it needs. Because at the moment I'm just wasting time on it and not really getting anywhere. As for those choices, I was kinda hoping Karnov would show up! ;D He's become a bit of a cult hero. One reason I'm more interested in older titles, of course, is that it's a lot more fun to draw characters based on sprites than it is on polygons.I'll probably post some character designs here from time to time

Master Chief. Possibly the only video games character i've been able to connect with so thoroughly. The fact that he is a super-soldier fighting a losing galactic war. The fact that he is the best of the almost beaten human race. The fact that because he is faceless he is easy to empathasize with and become part of and imagine actually being.
Frog blast the vent core.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a long-time favorite. I love the blue guy.
Let's see. How about Simon Belmont from Castlevania, Ryu from Street Fighter, Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, Billy and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon, the Battletoads, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury/King of Fighters, the Vic Viper ship from Gradius/Nemesis, Axel Stone from Streets of Rage, the R-9 from R-Type, Ecco the Dolphin, Mike Haggar from Final Fight, Bonk from Bonk's Adventure... I'm just rattling off names.
Speaking of SSBB, how about Solid Snake?
I guess it doesn't count, but I used a be a fan of the Ninja Turtle games. (Especially the arcade game.)

Good ones. Those are popular and many come from revolutionary games. Judge if these are important as well: - Agent 17 (Elevator Action)
- Pentarou (Antartic Adventure)
- Twinbee & Winbee (Twinbee)
- Mappy (Mappy)
- Frogger (Frogger)
- Q-Bert (Q-Bert)
- The Prince (Prince of Persia)
- Charlie (Circus Charlie)
- Milk (Nuts & Milk)

Thrall (Warcraft III)... and that's all I can think of that hasn't already been mentioned...
Do they all have to be heroes? How about some villians?

I'm undecided. I expect heroes will keep me busy for a while, but it's also fun to draw villains too... the All-Stars section on NinDB will be heroes, villains and some NPCs (probably ones who will end up in their own games eventually anyway... like Tingle).
I've been working on a few of my old favourites... Lemmings, Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island), James Pond (Robocod), Roger Wilco (Space Quest), Q*Bert, Head & Heels (Head Over Heels).
That's right... I wasn't always a Nintendo junkie!
I will not be including heroes, no matter how popular, who originated outside of videogames. So no TMNT or anything.

Head Over Heels? Isn't that some crusty old British computer game from the 80s? AKA Foot & Mouth?
Anyways, try Terra from FFVI. Try not to go on the "Sonic ripoff animal platformers", including, but not limited to: Crash, Awesome Possum, Mr. Nutz, and others....

For PC games, don't forget the Avatar from Ultima and Christopher Blair from Wing Commander.
Here are some more: Lolo, Vectorman, Dirk the Daring (Dragon's Lair), Mad Dog and Scorpion (Contra), Marco and Tarma (Metal Slug), Red and Blue (Gunstar Heroes), Alis Landale (Phantasy Star), Liu Kang (Mortal Kombat), and the Paperboy (Paperboy).
I have a question, if the player character is a vehicle (a la Vic Viper from Gradius), does that count as a video game hero? Or what if the hero doesn't have a name (ie. the guy from Space Harrier)?

How about Ubisoft's limbless hero Rayman?
