While on the subject of Mario sports titles, I'd like to state that Mario Golf 64 > Mario Golf Toadstool Tour and Mario Tennis 64 > Mario Power Tennis.
I also think I'm gonna give my opinions on all the Mario Parties, just for good measure (yes I have played them all).
Mario Party 1
Pros:
-The start of the series.
-Has the best soundtrack in the series.
-Had the Mushroom Village shops.
-MINI-GAME ISLAND!
-Least emphasis on the game board (game goes faster).
-Some of the most memorable mini-games in the series.
-Losing coins in mini-games provided actual challenge.
-Has the most boards of any game in the series.
-Has a trick ending with a really cool final board.
Cons:
-Graphics aren't up to par.
-Some things like Boo are too luck-based.
-It's hard to rack up coins due to only human player's coins being saved.
-Some of the Mushroom Shops's items aren't too useful.
-Those mini-games where you rotate the control stick.
-Some of Bowser's dirty tricks are really cheap.
-It's annoying having to watch someone else earn coins in a 1P mini-game.
Mario Party 2
Pros:
-Bigger and better boards than the first.
-Memorable new mini-games.
-Actually reused previous mini-games and refined them.
-New item system added to the boards.
-No more stick-rotation mini-games.
-Some of the cheaper elements of the first have been removed or changed to be less cheap (like Boo).
-All character's coins are saved.
-New mini-games like Battle and Duel are added.
-1P games only award items now.
-The whole Baby Bowser + Bowser Bomb = Bowser thing.
Cons:
-Some good mini-games from the first didn't make the cut.
-Not as many boards as the first.
-The story and ending aren't as memorable.
-Stars aren't saved or used for anything aside from being turned into coins.
-Saved coins aren't used for much besides unlocking new mini-games.
-Mini-Game Coaster < Mini-Game Island.
-The secret mini-games kinda suck.
Mario Party 3
Pros:
-Aesthetic is completely revamped with a unique art style.
-All-new boards that are even bigger.
-Action Time events.
-Most of the new mini-games are memorable and there's more than in the previous two.
-No more board-specific Duel and Items mini-games.
-The Millennium Star and Tumble.
-More items spread across two different shops.
-Better 1P story mode.
-2-PLAYER DUEL MODE!
-Story is actually pretty memorable and there's a nice plot twist near the end.
-Second best soundtrack in the series.
-Mini-Games are easier to unlock for free play.
Cons:
-No more Mini-Game Island/Coaster.
-GAME GUY MINI-GAMES! GRRRR....
-Waluigi and Daisy.
-2P Duel Mode's boards are kinda half-assed.
-No more refinement of previous mini-games.
-No more saving coins and stars for later use.
I'm gonna have to stop here. I'll continue my analysis of the inevitable train wreck later.
