Nintendo would be stupid to cancel that game! You can't really call it later either, since they never said anything about when it would be released (right?). I'm 99% sure the game will be released on Revolution, so you'll just have to wait that...

We don't know. It might never have existed. Each time journalists try to prise some information out about it the answers become ever-more cryptic. As far as we can tell, Miyamoto has had various demos of the game running on his computer since Super Mario 64 2 was announced - none of them quite an actual game, but all of them announced to the press.
Annoying. I doubt the first Rev Mario game will be the promised 128 either.

I've never heard of the Mario 128 game... I've only heard of the Mario 128 tech demo. As for the game... I don't think it exists at all.

I think Fryguy64 is right. Mario 128 is just a pet name cooked up by the media for Mario's next major 3D platform game. Mr. Miyamoto himself has said that they're still just kicking around ideas. However, he has confirmed that the next major Mario game will likely be for the Revolution. Link: consolewar.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3141514What confuses me is why they disregard Super Mario Sunshine. Was that not the sequel to Super Mario 64? It's criticized for being just an upgrade, but what were they expecting? Mario already made the jump from 2D to 3D? Is he supposed to be in 4D, now?

Mario 128 is the name used by Miyamoto and other Nintendo guys to refer to the next Super Mario game that isn't similar to SM64 and SMS.
I don't quite know what everyone's expecting though. If Miyamoto kept improving upon the 3D formula as it stands then I would be happy.

If Mario 128 is referring to "A future Mario game", then does anyone know what is this title about? It seems that the progress of this is very slow... or doesn't even exist. Is he supposed to be in 4D, now? The newest Mario game in 1 Oct, 2040: Super Mario Hyperspace! (I suppose if Mario can be here for more than 20 years, this should be possible.)

What confuses me is why they disregard Super Mario Sunshine. Because the platform elements were almost made redundant due to the inroduction of the FLUDD device. And the fact that mario spends half the game clearing up gunk.

Mario 128 is the name used by Miyamoto and other Nintendo guys to refer to the next Super Mario game that isn't similar to SM64 and SMS. I still don't understand. Okay, I remember Mr. Miyamoto and Mr. Fils-Aime using the name Mario 128, but it's for a game that doesn't exist beyond looking for an idea. And why does it have to be dissimilar to 64 and Sunshine? For what reason is he supposed to reinvent 3D Mario platform games?

Mario 128 may be the Revolution Mario game. Nintendo says it may be, but its not 100%.

"Mario 128" will probably end up becoming the mid-life big Mario adventure for the Revolution. >_>

For what reason is he supposed to reinvent 3D Mario platform games? Because he wants to - why should you doubt him? Was there a reason for him to change Mario from 2D to 3D? Probably not. Did it work? Damn right it did. If Mario 128 really is so different, then it would not surprise me if its sits next to a 2D Mario Platformer and a 3D Mario Platofrmer on the Rev. 3D Mario never really replaced 2D Mario, did it? Paper Mario never replaced 2D or 3D Mario, did it? Mario 128 will most likely live alongside the third 3D Mario, the new 2D Mario and Paper Mario 3.

I doubt Mario 128 will ever happen. It's a ploy. We've had one 3D Mario adventure and the empty promise of another for the last two console generations. I don't doubt we'll see a Mario game on the next console, but as for the reinvented platformer... like Super Mario 64 2 and Mario 128, this will be a pipe dream.
As for "replacing" each other... kinda yeah. Since SM64 there have been NO 2D Mario games to speak of. Paper Mario is more of a spinoff series, so I don't know why that was included.
But yes, 3D seems to have replaced 2D, which is a shame, because both are good in their own ways. Thank God for New Super Mario Bros.!

Let's see... if spinoffs are counted, Mario vs Donkey Kong IS the only 2D Mario platformer after Mario 64!

It'd be so awesome if Mario 128 featured the yellow cape from Super Mario World. While in the air, you could shoot fire balls and such. I sure hope Mario rides Yoshi again, and this time, Yoshi doesn't die when he touches the water.
