Of course, this will make the game not be boring! Pokemon isn't boring. But yes, a Pokemon MMORPG would ammuse me for months as well - and would ammuse Pokenerds until the end of time.

I didn't say that Pokemon is boring. But the amount of players that you can reach using current games is really very limited. You can, so far, only play with only people that you know, but not any player that has the game.

And if I was caught playing Pokemon with local players, I'd probably be arrested for child harassment or something

What exactly does MMORPG stand for exactly (in non-computer nerd language if possible)?

Not that this is really within the powers of Nintendo, But a sequel to Quest 64 would be amazing.

I would like the marketing guys at nintendo to realise that nobody really wants another Mario Party game anymore, so that they could come up with 'proper' mario games for once.

Take that bit up with Hudson. I personally feel they single-handedly ruined Mario's image with gamers (Miyamoto seems to agree, too )

Don't blame the marketing crew, blame the people who keep buying Mario Party games. What I'd like to see from the big N? More original games, even if they use established characters. Canvas Curse, Wario Ware, and Jungle Beat were all very fun. Don't stop now. I'd also like to see Nintendo branch out into two of my favorite genres: 2D Space Shooters (of the Re-Type/Gradius class) and arcadey action titles (2D would be nice).

Since when have Hudson creating Mario Party games impacted on EAD (or anyone else) creating other "proper" Mario games? While I'll agree that I'd like to see the next Mario Party held off and changed a fair bit, I don't see how you could say that their release is impacting on any other Mario games.

Mario Party, the original, was a fantastic game. I will give it that. But as the series progressed, it got more "kiddie," to say the least, and created a glut of Mario on the console. Miyamoto himself said once in an interview that he wanted to readjust Mario's image after "his hard days on the N64." Of course, Sunshine wasn't that much of a leap into "maturity," but you can see where he was coming from.

I think the spin-offs have tended to lock Mario into being a children's franchise. They're very "cutesy" in nature.
Now, some might be very good games, but as I've said before, I wish they created a seperate set of "cutesy" sporting characters and used them instead of the Mario ones.
I was playing Mario Kart DD today very briefly - I actually couldn't play it for very long, as I became quickly overwhelmed by the "cutesy" fator (something that hasn't bothered me before) - albeit, it is a good game, but I think I've played enough Mario Kart now.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to see more "real" Mario games - platformers specifically (although the RPGs are very good as well). But, the spin-offs are here to stay, so I hope to see some of those platformers in between the spin-offs - and does New SMB look awesome or what? ;D

The only issues I had with Double Dash's cuteness factor were Daisy's voice (which wouldn't have been that annoying if they gave her better soundbites), and the fact that everything seemed to have eyes for no reason. Sure, lots of things in the Mario games have had eyes in the past, but I'd rather they bucked that trend right now. The original Mario Party was no more or less cutesy than any of the others - but it was more of an original concept at the time. People liked its multiplayer mayhem... then a new one came out every year... How to kill a good idea, volume 1... Most of the Mario sporting games aren't necessarily cutesy though. They often use bright colours and flashy special powers... but never anything too targeted towards children like the Mario Parties. But it could be worse!

too "cutesy"? You've gotta be kidding me. Firstly, if there was a seperate cast of characters for the spinoffs, do you know what? - I (like many others I'm sure) wouldn't buy them. Not only because I find it more interesting to play as characters like, say, Paratroopa, with a tennis racket or Yoshi with a golf club than I would to play as Lleyton Hewitt or Tiger Woods, or "generic Nintendo tennis player" and "random nintendo golfer", but because, when you set a game in the Mario universe, you don't just get "Mario in a go-kart" or "Mario hits a baseball", you get a whole game set in the Mushroom Kingdom. With a new range of characters, there'd be no koopa shells, mushrooms or Chain Chomps, would there? And thats the main part of the appeal of the games. Secondly, regarding these spinoffs turning Mario into a childrens franchise, I have to disagree with that one too. Regardless of whether we saw over 10 different Mario games this generation, or if we saw just one, Mario's still gonna be called "kiddy" or "childish" by the general public - just like pretty much anything that doesn't have you having sex with prostitutes, killing people with rusty hooks, or having sex with prostitues THEN killing them with rusty hooks is gonna be considered kiddy. And if there was some grand plan to get rid of Mario's kiddy image, maybe they could have started things off by not naming their main Mario game "Super Mario Sunshine[/u]". While they're at it, why not just call it "Super Mario Super Happy Rainbow Fun Party" and get it over with? Its sure to make it appealing to the 15-year-old GTA fans. "I just sliced the f*#$% pimps head of, stole his weed and ran off with his hoe" "oh yeah, well I just saved a giant flower from some evil goo and got a statue of the sun" While I do think that we could do without a Mario Party every second month, I don't have an objection to getting a crapload of really cool spinoffs, and I also disagree with the fact that they are making Mario kiddy. Don't get me wrong, I love the Mario platformers most of all, and if I had to make the choice between Nintendo releasing SMB Revolution and Mario Pro Curling, I'd definately go for the platformer, but thats never been a problem - if you're happy to sit there with Mario Sunshine and pretend no other Mario games exist, thats fine. But I the meantime I'll be working on grabbing becoming the party star and sinking that last birdie to unlock Bowser Jr. Nice On! EDIT: Great comic, Fry.

Fryguyy - yeah, those VG Cats are quite funny to read! ;D I knew you'd disagree DIU. I must admit, the eyes on EVERYTHING that Fryguy noted was something I was talking about with my cousins as we raced around Dry Dry Desert and noticed that the sun had eyes (just like real life ). Plain and simple, I just don't like the spin-offs. Some are great games, but I just don't like them. You do. I don't. What can you do? It happens. And it does make everything "cutesy". There's nothing wrong with bright colours or cartoony characters - I actually like games like that. I'm saying that on occasion Mario comes across as a castrated plumber who appears to be the mediocre sportsman out of the lot (he's always the most balanced one), despite having his name plastered all over the game's title screen... as opposed to the platform-jumping master who saved the Mushroom Kingdom from an evil army of amphibians (at least I think turtles are amphibians). I agree with you 100% that it shouldn't take violence and sex to shift a "kiddie" image, DIU (sounds like another conversation I had somewhere... ;D). It doesn't matter anyway - enough people must be buying them so that Nintendo sees it as a good idea to keep making them. They see demand, so they supply - basic economic principle. Oh, and I won't pretend the spin-offs don't exist, as they certainly do - I just won't be buying them. (And if I offended anyone by suggesting that Mario came across as castrated,then... I don't care, but his voice is ridiculously high - perhaps if his voice was a little lower? - I still think he's a cool character, and I still think that the platformer Mario games are golden games, but I also see the franchise to Nintendo as I would a prostitute to a pimp... but it seems to work... ).
