1. This is not a Nintendo game but, 2. You may summon a normal or an effect monster up to Level 4 without tributing other ones. From level 5 up to level 6 you need one monster as tribute. Level 7 and 8 monsters need two. All other normal monsters need three. Note that you can only summon or set up to one monster card within your actual turn except due to the monster card's effect or a card combo. Therefore you need to select a card on your field so it's menu appears. Select "Tribute" to send that card to the graveyard. This card MUST NOT have attacked or being set to defense mode within the turn you want to tribute it.
Amazing how helpful online walkthroughs are.

It might be a Konami game, but if it's on the GameCube, DS, or Gameboy Advance, I would think y'all would still be able to help. XD If it's on the Playstation II, PSP, XBox, XBox 360, or PC, though...not so much so. :x

Tip: Nancy next time send a private message, Yu-gi-oh is a Konami game. I direct this notice to ALL members of the forums. If someone genuinely wants help in a game on a Nintendo system, and you are fully capable of helping, NOBODY should make an issue of the game not being published by Nintendo. That is both inconsiderate and sickly fanboyish. I will have none of that around here. My website may be about being a fan of particular videogames, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't embrace videogames as a whole... That's the true meaning of Christmas ;D

*grins* Hah! Isn't'at what I just said? X3
In more towards assistance, however... Nancy, have you tried going to GameFAQs.com by chance? I'm willing to wager there are some in-depth FAQs there for you and your son. Worse comes to worse, you could always try and find a copy of the official Yu-Gi-Oh! rulebook, too. Dunno how much help that'd be in the game, but still.
