They should have announced a new Game Boy a long time ago. I guess Game Boy and its successors, really and trtuly are going to not be supported any longer and will be dead. Websites will be estabilished to the great Game Boy. Seriously, though, do you think Pokemon really saved the Game Boy?

I believe! ;D
But seriously, the Game Boy was not being very strongly supported in the run up to 1996. It became a system dedicated to puzzle games, and all of the action games that had kept it afloat in the years beforehand were dying off.
Then Pokémon arrived and stormed Japan, then the US, then Europe.
It was shortly followed (in Japan) by a system upgrade (the GB Pocket), which in turn kept the system fresh... then the Game Boy Camera which was also a massive hit (hitting stores in the US and Europe around the same time Pokemon did).
Pokémon didn't save the system from dying out, but it revived Nintendo's handheld fortunes, causing them to put a lot of effort into keeping the name alive. You could say that Pokémon is responsible for paving the way for the massive handheld market that we have today... and despite the fact the initial rush has worn off, Pokemon games still sell in massive numbers - proving it wasn't just a one-trick pony.

Perhaps Nintendo would not have made GBC if it wasn't for the power of Pokemon.
