I've heard Sega was sponsering the Virtual Console on the Rev, but would that mean it's recent games natively for the Big N, or something like a Genesis library on the Rev (that would be weird)

They're not sponsoring it at all, they merely said they are in talks with Nintendo about it. They would like their back catalogue to be available through Nintendo's virtual console in some form, from Master System and Mega Drive (Genesis), through to possibly the Saturn or even Dreamcast.
But of course that would mean Nintendo's virtual console would have to be able to emulate those systems.
But it would also mean a big revenue stream for Sega from Nintendo, and thus mean ties between the two companies will grow stronger and closer. And that could possibly mean a lot more exclusive support for the Revolution from Sega.

Ack! Don't tease me like that! Dreamcast games on the Rev? No... No... Too good to be true. I mustn't raise my hopes like that. Besides, wouldn't having Sega's games on Nintendo's virtual console be like having Sonic & Tails, et al, in Super Smash Bros?

Err... no it wouldn't. In fact it's so completely UNlike that, I don't quite know how to respond to it.
Oh, I know!

What I'm saying is, isn't the point of Nintendo's virtual console to be able to play games from all of Nintendo's systems? Just like the point of Smash Bros is to play a fighting game with all of Nintendo's characters. That is, the concept wasn't meant to be all encompasing and industry wide, just Nintendo specific.
See? They're not so un-alike after all!
But don't get me wrong! I would love to be able to play classic Sega games on the Rev as much as I would love to see Sonic & Tails in the next SSB!

I can see where you're coming from, but I don't think it's quite the same. The main difference is that while everyone in SSB has to be Nintendo's property, the games that are going to be downloaded don't necessarily have to be. So if you're already offering something like, say, Street Fighter for download then its not all that different to have Sonic games.
And I wouldn't like to see any non-Nintendo characters in SSB, personally. I'm all for a Nintendo vs. series, though.

Unlike Smash Bros., the point of the virtual console is to allow you to play classic games - it's not necessarily the central point of the virtual console that it only plays old Nintendo system games.
Sega produced a lot of good games in the past, and I know I missed out on them due to being a young Nintendo fanboy who never owned a Sega console. Sega wants in on that action now, and I don't blame them.
Unlike Smash Bros. where the whole point is to celebrate Nintendo history, the virtual console is simply an in-system emulator. The more systems it emulates the more games we can get, and the more people will buy the system. Hoorah!

You're right when you say "not necessarily," but it would still seem strange to me for Revolution to play games from all those old Nintendo consoles, and then in the middle of that suddenly include old Sega games. But if it ends up being a first step towards a universal gaming device by also including Atari, Intellivision, ColecoVision, Neo-Geo, etc, that wouldn't be bad thing. But we're already way ahead of ourselves. Having five generations of Nintendo games playable on a single system sounds like a celebration of Nintendo history to me, and that's certainly what Nintendo is starting and promoting it with. And as great as the nostalgia factor is in Smash Bros, I thought of it more as a Nintendo "dream match" fighting game, and Mario vs Sonic would be a great "special case" dream match. You can't deny that Sonic has played a prominent role in Nintendo's history, both as a rival and as an ally. Last night, I realized how trivial a debate like this is, and I'm wondering how my innocent comment turned into it. I think the point you're making is that Smash Bros is intended to be Nintendo exclusive, and the virtual console is not. I'm just saying that if I can officially play Master System/Genesis-Mega Drive/Saturn/Dreamcast games on a Nintendo console, then I want Sonic in my Smash Bros.

My main point is that the virtual console will presumably play games not on Nintendo Database... it will probably play games from a whole range of publishers, and therefore not be as strictly Nintendo as Super Smash Bros... and so I see no problem in classic Sega games being ported to it either.
I think we both want the same things, but somehow Smash Bros. got dragged into it, and we all know how defensive I can get about that ;D

How DID SSB get dragged into this? Perhaps Sega will provide the NES games made by Sammy. Perhaps. I wonder if some mainstream punk will pick this up and send a mad rumor circulating on the web saying that there WILL be Genesis and DC games on the Rev.

I wonder if some mainstream punk will pick this up and send a mad rumor circulating on the web saying that there WILL be Genesis and DC games on the Rev. That was my fault. Please disregard my original comment. I don't think it was worth dragging out this far. I understand that it will probably have games that were published on Nintendo consoles, but were not developed (or originally published) by Nintendo. In fact, I expect it to. It's the games that were on non-Nintendo consoles that seem a bit removed to me. But again, I won't complain if they're there!
