www.gamespot.com/news/6148462.htmlUh... That's gonna take getting used to. It was cool when I could say I was looking forward to the Revolution, but now I'm supposed to say I want a Wii? How am I supposed to not be embarrased about that?

Just say, "I want to have a 'double-you-eye-eye'!"
Honestly, I want it to be Revolution. Wii sounds like the strangest name in videogame history.

What, even stranger than "Xbox"? But seriously, I've been checking out all the news sites going GASP a lot, and saying it to myself over and over...and I can see it growing on me (or Wii ). But SSB:III will definately ease the process. Plus this is SUCH a COOL siggy thing: "It's really not about you or me. It's about Wii." Or even: "Wii Are The Revolution! And Wii Will Change EVERYTHING!!" because I like to be slightly shouty sometimes

Nice slogens. Those could really work. This will hurt the console sales in America but Japan will buy them faster then you can say "wii"

Wii? I don't like it, but maybe it'll grow on me. Anyway, here's some Wii themed sigs: "Wii will wii will rock you!" Wii are the champions my friend! And wii will keep fighting 'til the end! Wii are the champions, wii are the champions! No time for losers, for wii are the champions! Of the world!" Or maybe just, "Wii are the champions of the world!" (Yes, I'm a fan of Queen). Also, how about the rumors going around about the Wii's force feedback and accelerameter? Anyone think they're something more than a rumor?

So, Fryguy can change it to discuss Wii!

OK... let us discuss Wii... IT BURNS WHEN I GO!!
I would just like to point out two things... the first is that this is not necessarily the final Revolution name. It could be the name of some service the Revolution will offer, or the initials of something.
Secondly... NoA would not name the console that in the US. It would definitely not be the final US name.
Wait until E3, you impatient hoarde of arses!!

*checks some more* Nope, apparently its official... well... that's Nintendo out of the console race in a year then... what bunch of complete smacktards do they have working over there!? YOU CAN'T USE A CHILDISH WORD FOR "URINE" FOR A NEW VIDEOGAME CONSOLE!!! IT WILL NOT SELL!!! IT WILL NOT GET PRESS COVERAGE!!! IT WILL DIE!!! I might as well close the site down now. Nintendo have taken something that will potentially change the way we play games, and then let their marketing people crap all over it. Way to go. Shall I close my site down now or after E3? *does not like the name*

I certainly hope this new name isn't the first of many mistakes on Nintendo's part. Although I shouldn't be surprised. I love Ninty and all, but they do have a knack for completely crippling an otherwise awesome concept. (friend codes for example)

Don't worry, Fry. Even if the Wii doesn't sell, there's still the DS.

First I think everyone need to get there panties out of a bunch and cool down. Now if I may.....
First is that Nintendo is crazy like a fox. There a good reason why they did this. The first is that it does grow on you. When I first saw it I said WTF, but after mulling it im my head it grew on me. Not everyone will like it at first but it will grow in due time.
Next its obviously more for visual appael rather then auditory. You may think the name is dumb(and it kinda is) but by looking at the logo you get another feeling. The color scheme and letter combinations make for a satisfiing look. Nintendo is probobly going to use more billboards and flyers then comercials.
Lastly they did not through them selves out of the race. First it will DEFINATLY sell well in japan. They'll go gaga over the name. Here it wont be received as well. The up side is the price the titles, the originality and fact it launches before the PS3. The name just isn't that importain and will seem to grow on fanms as it progresses.
This is obviosly not the focus of the system. Nintendo desided to show this before E3 bcasue they expected this reaction. It will settel and Nintendo will move to its main focus, gameplay. Also this will not loss it 3rd party support. Chances are they knew it was going to be called "Wii" atleast a month before they told use yet the games are still flying in.
If it was something serious then you can freak (like them canceling SSBR or SSBW or whatever). Nintendo will provide on the gameplay and that might be all that matters. Nintendo has done some crazy stuff so have faith in them, or as some say "Leave Luck to Heaven"

I'm glad it's growing on you, Smashchu, because it sure as hell isn't growing on me. I went to bed all annoyed, and I woke up to my radio alarm, and it was announced on the entertainment news there as well... bad start to my day. I prayed and wished and hoped Nintendo wouldn't call it something like the "Gamewand" or the "Wand Machine" or anything else with the word "Wand" in it... but you know what they say about wishes - Nintendo granted my wish and actually came up with something WORSE. To be honest, Gamewand has grown on me considerably since last night I would like to establish how this name will do all of the things Smashchu said it won't... Kill the consoleIt might do great in Japan. Over there, the name is not immediately associated with urination. However, I seriously doubt it will catch on in any English speaking country... no-one will be able to ask for a Wii with a straight face... not when there are X-Box 360s and PS3s on the shelves. Lose third-party support In direct correlation with the above - if the console loses sales in the west because of the name, then western third parties will also pull their support. If western third parties pull their support, then even the Japanese companies are likely to shift their attentions to X-Box 360 where they know western sales lie. Additionally, it is highly unlikely that any third-party knew it would be called Wii before yesterday. The reaction has yet to be seen. Aesthetic lookNintendo could have called it anything and achieved the same look. It might not look that bad on posters or the promo video... but it's still called Wii... and people will still have to say it. "Want to come over mine and play Wii later?" "My Wii is broken" etc.etc. I don't doubt that the Wii will have great games on it, because Nintendo is a genius in this department. Also take a look at the controller - inspired! One thing we can safely say Nintendo is NOT a genius at is marketing. For years their marketing department has made unforgivable mistakes that have killed their systems in entire regions of the world. This is one of those times. When I read it I wanted to swear, but I have blocked most of the swearwords I wanted to use on this forum. This isn't cel-shaded Zelda levels of WTF, this is Virtual Boy levels of WTF... only this isn't some side-project portable console... this is their home console. So in a way it's worse than VB. *sobs*

Dude i remember you said "As long as they dont call it Magic Wand" and now I think I prefer that. This name is simply a big mistake.
This name will not grow on me, and if it did it would grow on me like a disease. There was nothing wrong with the name Revolution.
And they couldnt say "We want to be just like Apple" any clearer.
