See above. Apparently it was just a mistranslation. Bowser Jr.'s in. I guess they are dead.

When I saw Bowser Jr. in one of the screenshots, with a caption saying "Koopa Kids Return!" I figured as much. Not that it matters. We got a good dose of Koopa Kids in Mario & Luigi, so they're still kicking around out there somewhere

What are the Japanese names of the Koopa kids? In the U.S. version, they had referential names like Ludwig van Koopa and Morton Koopa, Jr., and in the cartoon, they had goofy names like Kooky, Big-mouth and Cutie-pie. But in an old interview, Shigeru Miyamoto said they were named after members of the development staff. I assume that refers strictly to the Japanese version.
Wait, I think this belongs in the trivia thread!

The Koopa Kids didn't have names in Japan. They were named BY members of the development staff in the US once Mario 3 was being localized by NOA. The cartoon gave them weird names to avoid paying royalties.
It's a huge disappointment, because they were also ditched from Super Princess Peach. Somebody hacked the game, and found sprites for a few of the Koopalings left behind in there :/ They were not worth the cameo in Mario and Luigi; let's be honest. They got mentioned once, and didn't even talk or anything. Just blocked your path. What a waste of a great cameo.

You're right. I'm sorry. Miyamoto said the Koopa Kids were "modeled" after the design staff, not named after. I'd better edit my trivia post.
Thanks for the correction!

See above. Apparently it was just a mistranslation. Bowser Jr.'s in. I guess they are dead. They've been dead (for the most part) from the outset of SMS with the arrival of Bowser Jr, so this doesn't surprise me one bit. I often wonder how much better SMS would be if the Koopa Kids were in SMS instead of Bowser Jr. And how much better the mario universe would be as a whole, without him and Petey Pirahna.

To answer your original question... They were nameless in the Japanese SMB3, and only adopted the same first names as the American version in SMW. It is suspected that the TV show used made-up first names - not to avoid royalties - but because the episodes were written before the American SMB3 named them all. But they might have continued in order to avoid the royalties thing So... Larry, Morton, Wendy, Iggy, Roy, Lemmy and Ludwig... without the rest of their names. And the M&L cameo was excellent. You got to fight them all, and they each did their own weird little things. EDIT: Sqrt... LOVE the new avatar. Doctor Who roxxors.

I love the Koopalings, but I have to say that I love Bowser Jr, too, and if you think SMS would be better simply if they replaced Bowser Jr. with one of / all the Koopalings you're crazy.
I wish they were in, but its not going to affect anything.
Oh, and have you got picks of the Koopalings in SPP? I'd love to see them if there are.

I've been searching for ages, DIU. Let me try again as I type this.... Okay, it was a link off Gamehiker, but that site JUST went down. I'll try again in a few minutes. And yeah, Jr. DID make Sunshine great. I enjoy him in the Sports titles/Kart, but I really wish they gave him a better design that wasn't so close to Baby Bowser's (and that they didn't change Baby Bowser's design in Partners in Time). It just confuses n00bs, and it makes me upset having to correct them

I suspect Bowser Jr. is supposed to be Baby Bowser... just like Baby Mario and Baby Luigi... I think Partners in Time was supposed to be a part-explanation for why the babies are in the same games as the grown-ups.

Partners in Time needed to have Bowser Jr and Baby Bowser meet up and get swapped around for some crazy time travel shenanigans. Infact Partners in Time needed alot more crazy time travel shenanigans, but thats an issue for another time.
Wow, why did Ninty have to pull the Koopalings out of SPP? They look cool.

I don't think Bowser Jr. and Baby Bowser are supposed to be the same person... it's made pretty clear in SMS that Bowser Jr. is Bowser's son, and it was made clear in YI that Baby Bowser was Bowser as a baby. Plus, Bowser Jr. is quite a bit fatter than Baby Bowser. The Mini-Bowsers from Mario Party confuse the hell out of me... but I'm still trying to pretend those games never happened.

Party games are very very non-canon. I mean, they said Kamek quit his job as Bowser's second hand Koopa to be a casino manager. Wth is that? Not to mention the Koopa Kids, who aren't the real Koopa Kids, and the abuse of characters that shouldn't be playable/in the series in the first place (Dry Bones, Toadsworth, etc.) Of course, Kamek is the Japanese name for Magikoopa, so it gets really really confusing... Psycho Kamek in Superstar Saga is most likely NOT Kamek. There is a cool Kamek cameo in Super Circuit though; on Bowser's Castle 3, he's flying over the finish line. I never noticed until someone pointed it out
