Okay so who's getting the Nintendo Wii on preorder? I here some sites are letting you make preorders dispite the lack of release/price information. I personally will be getting it on pre-order off the Internet (its the only way I can guarantee getting one ) But not until some more information has been released. But anyway, what do you guys think? Here are the two big questions: 1~ Are you getting the Wii on preorder (or have got it on preoder) no matter what the cost? 2 ~ Are you selling/trashing your old GC (after all, the Wii has backwards compat.)? I will probably keep my GC

I always buy consoles straight outta the store, without preorders. I very seldom preorder anything. I like the rewarding, if not masochistic, feeling of finding a game/console after hunting for hours at a bunch of different stores. It makes it feel more "personal."
I am keeping my Cube, for posterity and old school gaming. Plus I plan to unveil all my old consoles to my kids anyways, if and when I have them (I'm still single for crying out loud XD), and Gamecube is a top notch console to show off, don't you think?

I'm not getting a pre-order. I'm getting it in the stores on release day. I might port it from the US though.
I was going to sell my GC, but I wont be anymore. I regret selling my N64. Good thing I sold it to a friend.

I'm waiting on news about Region-locking, or hopefully a lack of region-locking, for starters. If the console is region-locked, I reckon I might import a US one. Not sure at the moment, though.

No, I won't being buying it right away. I can't afford to spend $200 on a wii plus $50 for a game.
I won't be selling my Gamecube either.

Maybe I heard it wrong, but I believe an NoA rep at E3 said they are aiming for a worldwide launch. Check the IGN interview with Perrin Kaplan. Not that that means anything, but at least thats the goal... I don't plan to preorder, and I'll keep my GC for sure.

Not that that means anything, but at least thats the goal... I don't plan to preorder, and I'll keep my GC for sure. No, by region locking I mean that a console can only play games from a certain region (so an Australian (PAL) console can play European (also PAL) games, but not ones sold in the US, Canada (NTSC) or Japan (also NTSC, but differently coded, I think). None of the handhelds have that, hence why you can play titles from anywhere. The PS3 has no region-locking either, apparently. But yes, the worldwide launch is certainly good news, and I was very pleased to hear that Australia was mentioned, unlike the Xbox 360's so-called worldwide launch.

I will probably pre-order one when the European release date is announced. I usually pre-order consoles because I get more points on my Game card, which means I get more money off. I buy a lot of games, y'see Which reminds me... I'd better start saving up!

I was quite impressed by the price of the Wii ($200 isn't it?) So I will more than likely get one close to the initial release, although it is a temptation to buy on as a package with SSBB when it is released in 2007.
Iv decided not to sell my GC either, and definetly not my pads, which I will need for the Wii

The Wii price has not been announced as far as I know, but the speculation is anywhere from $150 to $250. Perrin Kaplan said the price "will make it so you want to go run out and buy one" or something to that effect, which probably means around $200.

I usually don't pre-order unless there's some kind of bonus attached.

I think the reason that American consoles can't play Japanese game is because are consoles don't have a Japanese font. I don't know for sure though.

Fonts are nothing to do with it... I can play Sonic Adventure 2 with Japanese subtitles without any problems if I want to. The fonts are stored on the games themselves, not the consoles.

The reason you can't do it is because the console manufacturers programmed the game consoles and games to only accept games from certain regions. These can be bypassed using several modifications or bits of software. Funnily enough, it's Australia that is at the forefront of this battle, deeming it an unnecessary and illegal restrained on international sales. Probably because they're very close to America and Japan, yet they're stuck with pseudo-European releases. It doesn't affect me, as I don't import that often. I have enough trouble paying for all the games released locally without trawling the US and Japan for more
