Those characters would be cool... but I fail to see how exactly Ridley would work as a Smash Bros. fighter.
Yeah, I'll wait for an official announcement too.

It's fake. It's been going around EVERYWHERE, but notice it's not been offiically announced. If Sakurai said it on the radio, he would've put it on his website for ALL to hear. Complete and utter bull.
FYI, it originated on a forum, without a source. Shows you how quickly rumors spread on the internet.

Yep, its fake. I also couldn't see Sakurai ditching the Ice Climbers (maybe theres a chance of ditching Mr G&W, but I'd say its fairly small), since they are original and one of his quotes from the Japanese site was "only asking for popular characters doesn't excite me" or something.
That being said, Young Link definately should be replaced with Cel Link, though, and the other two would be great additions.

I wouldn't be so sure. 1up.com and WiiFanboy are both reporting this as fact. Both of them are reliable sources of information.

Its bull. Wait for official word from Sakurai or Nintendo. Even the king of all sources, IGN, basically confirmed that Pit would be a playable fighter previous to the release of Melee. Rumors, rumors, rumors.

Since when is IGN the king of all sources? I can't tell you how many times I've heard people say "You can't spell ignorance without IGN."

It's so fashionable these days to bag out IGN - I don't actually see anything wrong with the site and I get a lot of my video game information from them.
Yet, for some reason, people all over the Internet go on and on about how bad the site is.
Seems unecessary...

Aye, 1up has a story. BUT, if it were true, Nintendo would have something. Gamespot and IGN would have something. The Nintendo.com forums would have something more concrete than what's there. It's still rumor. If the Japanese Smash Bros. site doesn't have it, then I doubt it. Sakurai has been commenting on SSBB on a regular enough basis that IGN (who is all over the game, considering how they are ripping off the Smash Bros. main page) would have somehting about it. Time will tell...

Well it is false. And thats a fact. The guy who made it aid it was a lie.

I figured so. 1up ought to wait until rumors are confirmed first before posting an official news story (which is why I'm sure IGN and Gamespot didn't post anything).

You know, if that was the final list I'd be very happy. Sure, theres some dodgy characters, and way too much from certain franchises / games, but theres a real good character mix and lots of obscure / one-off characters. Which is good.
Oh, and Link's Uncle vs. Blue Virus. vs. Bow Wow the Chain Chomp vs. Steven Stone would be awesome. So would be hearing "HUMAN MAIN CHARACTER!" and the audience support for him/her.

Now the trick is getting that same variety and mix with 35 or-so characters.

Exactly. For curiosity's sake, I chucked the list in Excel and hid 3 out of every 4 characters (left the first - so 1,5,9, etc) and I got a quite nice list, in terms of the ratio of characters from certain games, of 23 characters. Apart from the fact I got 3 FE characters, the rest were all in a pretty good ratio.
What does that tell us? Not much, except that if they added about a quarter of the characters from that list, they could still maintain a good balance. But on the other hand, they could just take the top 23 on that list, and give us 5 Mario characters, 5 Zelda ones, 4 Metroid ones, 4 Starfox ones, 3 DK ones, and 2 Mother ones. Which would be, you know, not good.
I have plenty of faith in Sakurai, though.

His repeated comments regarding not wanting to just focus on popular characters makes me warm and tingly inside.
Now that Pit and Wario are in there, my next goal is to see Takamaru and Sukapon in there... but they probably won't show up until Super Smash Bros. Bludgeon on the Nintendo WooT in 2012.
