I have been posting like a fiend today, neh? Anyways, I read that Nintendo was dropping the "graphical enhancements/new features" deal with the Virtual Console games. What this meant in the first place is still up for speculation, but we may never find out as it isn't happening apparently theboard.zogdog.com/index.php?s=aa37734bee1bf8b3255f8060a286ecb7&automodule=blog&blogid=11&showentry=1256This could still mean they can do better framerates for, say, Majora's Mask, but they are not redoing models or sprites whatsoever. There goes my hopes of a really awesome looking Balloon Fight and/or Kid Icarus

Knowing Nintendo, we probably will see a better looking Balloon Fighter or Kid ICarus, but it'll be a DS version that sells for full DS price.
I'm not fussed at all with the graphics, but I'm still hoping Nintendo lets us play these little babies online.

That was a moot point in my books anyway. I've planned the future of the site around them NOT updating them too much. Besides, part of the fun of playing retro is loving retro graphics! We did get to hear more about new games being made available on the Virtual Console as well. Not much that we didn't already know - but Nintendo is taking this element seriously for working with independent developers. Who knows? Someone might see fit to make a Kid Icarus remake especially for the VC. Nintendo doesn't seem to want to

It's a shame to hear that as some games need an urgent graphical upgrade (say SM64 and LoZ:OoT for instance). Not that I care about graphics that much, but still...

I agree with Fryguy. It is the old graphics. In Zelda: Collector's Edition, the original Zelda still had slowdown with too many enemies on the screen.

Haha, slowdown! I must have survived quite a few 8- and 16-bit games by having them slow down so much when surrounded with enemies. Every cloud has a silver lining But seriously, if they went through eliminating glitches and slowdown, but retaining the same old graphics then I would be happy. At the same time it's a bit of a shame. I wouldn't complain if they beefed up the games a little as well - cleaner and more colourful sprites, new levels, maybe even some remixed tunes like those in Tetris DS. That would have been nice, but in no way devastating.

They did remove glitches and slowdown, actually. Mario 64 ran at perfect FPS, always, and apparently Sonic did not slow down even once. Awesome. But again, maybe the ability to make games using the old hardware with the VC will allow us to get the updated games, just not as a part of the original build. So there's still hope for a fan "Balloon Fight 64" project

Not specifically on topic, but I thought I'd mention this. www.gametab.com/news/568102/Hudson has promised 100 games for the virtual console. I hope this means we're not just going to get Hudson games on the Turbografix. I wouldn't mind a round or two of Super Bomberman.

As I suspected, it's not 100 TurboGrafX games available... but 100 Hudson games.
I hope we get the Sega Saturn version of Bomberman... X-Box 360 is getting it.
I would also like it if there were one or two original arcade games rather than NES remakes. The original Xevious looks so much better than the NES version.
But maybe my hopes are set too high.
