Because they've done this once with GC. But then.... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously. Just use a simple charger. I don't see it's impossible if they could have used chargers for everything else (except for GBA, duh, 1st generation GBA systems don't even use DC in) I just want to yell it out loudly.... Don't use battries, Nintendo! You can do it! And you too, Intelligent Systems!

If true, it would indeed suck. For all of the advances Nintendo has made with long-life batteryless charging technology over the years - leading the field at some times - it would be a crying shame to see something so groundbreaking fall down at the first hurdle.
I mean, I never really played my GBA much until the SP came out... mainly because of the added expense of regular battery top-ups and the regular annoyance of regular battery drainage.
I mean... if my pointer is about to run out of batteries, will I be able to finish the rest of the level and save the game? Don't forget, if the batteries run dry, even the Pause function dies... so you're a sitting duck if you're not prepared.
30 hours is not long enough.

They want a focus on multiplayer stuff too. If you're playing a lot of party games with 2-4 people, you're going to be spending a fortune on batteries.
This is the first thing which has really bummed me out about Wii. I wonder if there is a chance its not true?

I think it has a function that when the controllers die, the game will automatically pause. They want a focus on multiplayer stuff too. If you're playing a lot of party games with 2-4 people, you're going to be spending a fortune on batteries. This is the first thing which has really bummed me out about Wii. I wonder if there is a chance its not true? Well, there is. Videogame news are, don't be surprised by that - not always true. Whoever said firmly that Kirby GC will surely come out would be bumping their heads by now.

Doesn't the 360 controller run on regular batteries, but you can buy a rechargable battery pack if you wish instead? That would be alright, as long as neither are too expensive.
Otherwise, theres always rechargable batteries - I already have 4 AA ones around the house (two go in the mouse, two go in the camera), and, from memory, they're not really that expensive.

I know they're not that expensive, but it is an additional expense AND an additional annoyance. I still remember quite clearly when my Wavebird ran out of batteries in the middle of Wind Waker... now do that, add an internet connection and no doubt some kind of winners ranking, and eventually you will have a lot of annoyed people. The expense of batterying up at least four Wiimotes is also quite worrying. Unless Nintendo expects everyone to bring their own

Dont lose hope yet IGN mailbagSecond one down. The version is not oficial just yet. There may be a chance of a rechargable battery.

This is why I prefer my controllers to have wires - but this just isn't an option for something like a nunchuck.

Well, I hope that they'll make Wii Remote rechargeable and the cradle will be on the Wii itself! This shoud sound good, perhaps?

Well, I seriously hope that they won't use dry cells. That way I'll have to get myself a battery charger and rechargeable battries, worthing the price of half a game. NOOOOOOOOO!

Or they could put a rechargable battery in the controller, thereby making the controller more expensive, thereby making it a bigger cost to the casual market who wouldn't play the Wii anywhere near as much as we would.
While it may not seem like the best option for us gamers, AAs are probably the best choice for the casual market (unless Nintendo can get a rechargable battery that doesn't affect the Wiimotes cost at all). As I have said, hopefully Ninty does go the 360 route and have rechargable battery packs that we can buy if we so wish, though.
