Hello you crazy crew! As you might have been able to tell today, I'm on a bit of a cameo hunt. And as you might have guessed from this title, I'm after Super Mario RPG cameos next. I've known about them all for some time, but just haven't got around to collecting screenshots for them all. There's: LINK - Link can be found sleeping in the Rose Town inn after you first sleep there. SAMUS ARAN 1 - Booster has a doll of Samus in his toybox at the top of his tower. SAMUS ARAN 2 - Samus can be found sleeping in Peach's bed after you reach Land's End, and before completing it. STARFOX/F-ZERO - Hinopio's shop in Barrel Volcano has a set of space-themed figures. Blue Falcon and Fire Stingray from F-Zero, and the Arwing from Starfox. CULEX - The biggest boss of all. Culex is not directly from any Final Fantasy game, but is derived from a number of Final Fantasy-style monsters. That and the music is the Final Fantasy theme as well. Now, I need screenshots, and heaven forbid should I play through the whole thing again. It's huge! I already have screenshots of Link and Hinopio's collection, which means I need a shot of Booster's toybox, sleeping Samus, and of the Culex battle. I don't want to pinch them off any other websites without express permission. I was wondering if any of you have screenshots? They have to be taken on an emulator or TV card. They must also be fairly clear (as little graniness as possible). If anyone can help, thanks

You have my permission to use stuff from TMK (as always)... I have most of what you need on www.classicgaming.com/tmk/smrpg.shtml#guestI can probably get a Culex battle shot fairly quickly, but I was wondering what your take on Culex was? I understand the crystals are standard to many of the Final Fantasy games and the battle music is recycled from FF2/4, but we regularly get e-mails pointing out that Culex is a Final Fantasy character. The claims never come with any proof and we have repeatedly denied the connection.

He sure is. Thanks for those Deezer! I'd not spotted them on the site.
As far as I can tell (not being an avid Final Fantasy player I'm not 100% sure, but I have heard from other avid FF players) that Culex is NOT in any Final Fantasy game. The Crystals are a mainstay of the series, but Culex is just a Final Fantasy-style villain, and not actually from any game.
Like you say, anyone who says otherwise usually has no evidence to back it up. Sounds like it's time for RESEARCH!

After some research, there is no Final Fantasy villain called Culex, but plenty of FF final bosses that look a little bit like Culex. Usually with horns and wings and all kinda jazz. And the being big and evil, of course.
Man, some of those Final Fantasy villains look mean.

From FFCompendium, Cidolfas had this wrote out:
Super Mario RPG: A hidden boss in Monstro Town is Culex. Although this boss doesn't appear in any Final Fantasy, his cohorts, the four Crystals, should be familiar to everyone! His boss music is identical to that of FF4, and the victory music is the ever-loved Victory Fanfare. Also, Joey Martin notices that there's a dragon-like monster called "Bahamutt" in the game.

Hm, interesting. Though I guess I should add something about the Crystals/music to our SMRPG info. ;D

I don't suppose you would want a Bahamutt screen for your cameos, would you?
Or the one enemy that looks like DK?

Guerilla and Chained Kong both look like Donkey Kong, and yes, screens of them might be handy, as would Bahamutt, as I've heard that mentioned quite a few times as a cameo now. Thanks guys
