New NOM UK is out... and it seems Yuji Naka and Shigeru Miyamoto have talked about a Mario/Sonic game, but are reluctant to make it. Both teams fear the game would either be an excellent combination of game styles, or a complete mess.
But that's not what galls me...
Their feature on the Top 150 Nintendo games, as chosen by the readers, contains a side bar on their favourite cameos in Nintendo games. Well, blow me down if they haven't upped and nicked stuff straight off Nintendo Database. This isn't the first time it's happened either - one instance is their Nincyclopaedia freebie book: packed with stuff from Nintendo Database (and other popular fansites). How do I know?
This is the bit that makes me laugh... I know because they use the same wrong or incomplete information that I did. Sometimes I've fixed it, and sometimes it is sitting on my computer or my inbox waiting to be fixed. Aside from the fact they outright nicked the Qix and Pokemon cameo screenshots from the site this time around (one made by me, and one by TMK), they also included the incomplete Qix cameo with only two of the "nationalities" that Mario parades as. The one waiting to go up when the Game Boy section is complete lists all of his "nationalities". NOM UK have outdated information.
And no reference to any of the sites they nick stuff from. THAT is what galls me.
Maybe I should start a section: "What's wrong in NOM UK This Month?" Heh heh heh.

Ya know, you could probably sue them about that if you wanted to.

I doubt it... they're an official Nintendo product and NinDB isn't. Besides, it's not like I've mentioned every source I've ever used (I do try, but sometimes I lose them). But this is an official publication, and it happens A LOT.
Their Custom Robo feature had a sidebar about the previous games... and once again all of the screens were the ones used here... including the CRGX one that I took.
*sigh*

Aw man, that sucks The least they could've done is add some text like 'Information from Nintendo Database' or something.

Heh, I remember a while ago with one of the previews or something like that of Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen (or was it Ruby & Sapphire?... I can't remember) they took some photos straight from www.pkmn.net (I go there alot and do a bit of work for them every now and again). The image even had the huge "PKMN.NET" logo on it and they just completly ignored it... Maybe they just left it on there just to show where they got it from... Whatever the case, it looked really unprofessional. Ah well, that's NOM UK for you.

You should be honoured! Your stuff is featured in a top (giggle, "top", yeah right) magazine that lots of people read!
Its like those anonymouse donators to charity, they don't do it to be recognised, they do it for the warm glow inside. Er, except this was done against your will....

I would have called giving to charity against your will "theft"... I don't mind them using the stuff... I just wish they'd drop a link to my site in somewhere (and an ACTUAL link... not some halfarsed attempt pointing to the defunct Planet Nintendo site, such was their attention to detail in the SSBM trophy screenshot spread I contributed to). After all, I don't get paid to sit around and write about Nintendo all day, but I do it anyway, while they DO get paid to... so I'd rather they'd acknowledge the fact I've spent years of my life compiling the information they're getting paid for using.

not some halfarsed attempt pointing to the defunct Planet Nintendo site Don't you mean the site on Classicgaming? Planet Nintendo is your current host, remember?

No, I meant the actual site: Planet Nintendo... they put the link: www.planetnintendo.cominstead of: www.planetnintendo.com/nindbAnd if you go to Planet Nintendo.com you just get forwarded to Gamespy's GC section... giving you but a few seconds to find Nintendo Database on the list (at the bottom of the page) before you're outta there. It wasn't well received by me. Bunch of cockups.
