Without jumping to wild conclusions, what COULD the USB ports on the Wii be used for?

Any answer to this question is a wild conclusion.
It could be used to attach accessories, or it may be hacked to employ many varied pre-existing USB items for a wide variety of purposes.

I imagine it's there for a possible variety of uses, as that's what USB ports are for. If you're looking for some specific information, Nintendo says it will be used for The Wii LAN Adapter that will connect to a wired router (no Wi-Fi).

Thank god we get this existing format instead of the whole memory card plug thing we had for GameCube.

Well, I actually liked Nintendo making their own spec. I don't really want to buy a computer, seriously; I only need a console that play games. Ah, well.
What I can think of the USB port:
- To provide power for lamps or fans or whatever, like PC would provide power for USB gadgets like such. - To provide a converter for 64/SFC/FC/whatever contollers - To allow you to use the Classic Controller w/o a Wii Remote (How do you play with a Wii Remote hanging on your controller?) - To conntect the Wii with whatever-after-DS - as you can see, the 2-year gap between home console and handheld console... it's actually quite annoying. - To connect a GB Player or a LAN adaptor - To connect the AV cables for SFC - To connect USB drives and SUPPORT THEM - To recharge Wiimotes - To connect whatever device that helps you to get rid of the Sensor Bar. I want my Wii to be portable, playable at ANY monitors or TVs in my flat. - To connect the Wiimote with a dummy wire so that it looks like a game controller =P
...That's what I can think of for now.

Hopefully?
A Keyboard. I hate typing with the Wiimote. It may act as a good mouse on the Opera browser, but a good keyboard it does not replace.

I am getting a lot faster at typing with the Wii Remote, but it's still grindingly slow. And I hate the fact it auto-fills every full stop with a ".com" address. Raaaargh!

The Gamecube Keyboard are mostly used for Phantasy Star Online and that's another problem.

It doesn't have to be a Wii Keyboard though. Just have a System Update that will allow a selection of standard USB Keyboards to work on the Wii.
