The "white hair" on Brendan's head is actually a hat. You can tell by his battle sprite that his hair is really black. LOL, always thought it is his hair. Thanks for clearing up, I should have read Bulbapedia before. And I always wondered why that guy doesn't wear a hat like the other male player characters.

The battle sprite thing doesn't mean much, since anime people usually have a goofy mix of haircolours... I mean check out that Yugioh dude. But apparently he takes off his 'hat' in the comic revealing black hair....
What kinda hat looks like that? So he's wearing a wig? What? Why?

One shouldn't wonder about anything regarding the design of anime/manga people. The humans in Pokémon still look prettty normal.

No way that is a hat.

What? He wants to be different. Why do people always have to make fun of the odd-balls?

He has black sideburns. It's a hat.

I don't see sideburns. Looks like a shadow to me. Give me more sufficient proof before I start believing it.

To confuse matters further, in the Pokemon Special manga he has black hair and very clearly wears a white, pointed hat. However, his anime counterpart, like Ruby/Sapphire, may or may not have white hair--it's unclear in the short snippet that he's seen.
In the Ruby/Sapphire artwork, he has no sideburns. In the Emerald artwork, he does.
Also, before Ruby/Sapphire came out, there was a male character named Harrison who was meant to be the Ruby/Sapphire male trainer (before Brendan was unveiled) and he has brown hair. Brendan has since appeared in the anime himself (cameos in the movies), like I said earlier.
As far as I'm concerned, it's really not something to get too involved with. I mean, christ: does Wario's hat have a white brim or not? What happened to Yoshi's orange gloves? Did the Link in LttP really have pink hair? and Samus green? There's just weird questions about character evolutions that will probably never be answered, so... cool discussion, but no need to get riled up over it.

I still say it's a hat. They had no reason to give him white hair and every male protagonist in Pokemon traditionally wears a hat.

I still say it's a hat. They had no reason to give him white hair and every male protagonist in Pokemon traditionally wears a hat. Every male protagonist before him wears a cap, though. So they 'had no reason' not to give him a cap. But they didn't. Because they felt like not doing it. Which would be the same reason they could give him white hair if they wanted to.

Uh, whether its a hat or not, it shouldn't be too strange for hair to be colored like that. Seeing how there are people in Pokemon, who have blue, pink, and whatever color you choose hair.
He could be pulling a reverse Mr. Fantastic look?

@ Koopaul, I would say it's more like long spiky reverse Mr Fantastic.
I have to admit it does look like hair because the green strip looks like a bandanna keeping his "white hair" back.
But when you think of the green bandanna and white part together it does look like it is part of the same structure mean that he is in fact wearing a hat . . . well technically a two colored spiky beanie.
End of discussion.
