It's been confirmed by a Japanese magazine that Chunsoft are developing a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2, probably to include the new 4th generation Pokémon.
While this is good news to me, I know a lot of people here disliked the original. However, it's said to have a gameplay overhaul. Good news?

Only if they give the computer some decent AI this time around.

They'd have to strip the entire system down and make it good in order for the whole thing to work.
I don't think Chunsoft is capable of doing this.

It's a long running Chunsoft series, so it's unlikely they'll change the basic mechanics. Japan loves them, and has loved them for many years.
May the Lord help them!! ;D

And speaking of the Lord, I suppose Arceus will be the final boss or something. By "overhaul" I suppose it has to do with the Physical/Special split... Any ideas of how can this affect some of the moves in this game? What I like from Mystery Dungeon (besides the collecting factor) is that the game series is a better approach to real-time Pokémon battles than the standard RPGs or Battle Revolution will ever be. Overall it's good news to me . I was expecting a pinball game or something.

Aw, I wanted a Pokemon Snap Wii.
Maybe by "major overhaul" they mean the story will actually be good this time.

Aw, I wanted a Pokemon Snap Wii. Oooh, THAT would be a game worth playing. Maybe not buying...it'd have to be, like, five times longer than Snap was. But definitely worth playing. See, this is just silly...this is Pokémon we're talking about. There's never been a good story! ;D (Unless you read the Pokémon Adventures manga, which is a very awesome exception to the rule.)

I love the Pokemon Adventures manga. I wish they'd hurry up and make a real-time Pokemon game based on that. The character designs are so much better than most adaptions as well. And Red is a lot less dense than Ash Plus, Pokemon get carved up and smashed. Woohoo!

Never read that manga, but I can say that I think a Pokemon Tactics would be prooty awesome.

Never read that manga, but I can say that I think a Pokemon Tactics would be prooty awesome. That's basically what Mystery Dungeon is, y'know. Or at least, it's as close as you're ever gonna get. The only tweak it'd need to make it so is controlling your other party members rather than having them follow you.

Well, they could go all out and make it like Ogre Battle or something. ;D

...Why not just play Ogre Battle, then?
Maybe it's just me, but a lot of your ideas seem to be "take Nintendo franchise, and turn it into a clone of another franchise."

I was only kidding around with that. I haven't even played Mystery Dungeon, so I really didn't know what it was like.
If it is close to real-time battles, as previously mentioned, then that's something they should improve on.

Maybe by "major overhaul" they mean the story will actually be good this time. Was there an actual story apart from the 'you've suddenly changed into a pokemon' bit in Mystery Dungeon?
