Should I get Diamond or Pearl? I'm leaning toward Diamond, even though it is in the "blue" one (I've always gotten "red" or "ruby")

Get both!
Er, wait, not everyone has a disposable income...hmm.
Looking strictly at Version Exclusives, I'd go with Diamond; it has the Larvitar and Scyther families, and those are always fun to train up.

I'm taking Diamond. I've always gotten the blue one first.

Nope. Diamond's box art is colored blue, and Pearl's is pink.

But Gold was always considered the 'red' and Silver was always considered the 'blue' despite neither actually having red or blue in the boxart - I've always seen it as the first game listed is 'red' and the second is 'blue' - so if it was Pokemon X & Y, X would be red and Y would be blue, regardless of what colour boxart appeared.
(also Crystal and Emerald are 'yellows' but neither are actually coloured yellow)

Does it actually matter? So long as you make sure you know someone with the OTHER one then you're set!

What? I just got Emerald last week!
Seriously though, I'd wait for Pokemon Cubic Zirconium (That's going to be the special edition).

What about colors? I'm personally holding out for Pokémon Puce. ( )

People speculate the name of the special version will be named after the Opal gem in case Giratina becomes the mascot (because of its name).
thores kept me thinking about which one is "red" and which one is "blue", because of the mascots' Pokédex numbers, despite Diamond is mentioned first and Pearl is mentioned last. Anyway I'm going to get Diamond and a stylus this Tuesday, even though most people are getting that version like Smashchu said.
Happy D/P day everyone.

Need someone to get this game. I'm lonely.
But, after some play time, I have deduced that they are really alike. Not to much difference after about a few hours in. I did SEE a pokemon from Pearl, but no catch oprotunities yet.

Fryguy, don't ignore the mundane arguments - embrace them! The world will be a better place once it knows which of Tingle's brother's you prefer (Ankle, totally) or which out of the feather and the leaf was the better Mario powerup (Feather, obviously). Woo! Mundane!
