So... I'm now a little way through the second chapter, and I'm being sent all over this mansion by the maid... but after going into the first room on the ground floor, when I talk to her again, my game locks up and leaves me with a long, loud buzzing. I've tried three times and it keeps happening. And the only other European owner I know is also having this problem. Is it a problem with all European copies?

Do you have a copy yourself, Fry? I need to know whether to scream and flail or just calmly return my copy and get a new one.

Well, I've concluded that this glitch is in most, if not all EU copies of the game. A quick look at the GameFAQs message board confirms it. It's possible to get around it without talking to Mimi using FAQs, but damn. Nintendo of Europe are really slipping lately, what with this and the recent recall of Mario Party 8. Somebody I asked about this told me his copy of Tingle had frozen up on him, too.

I'm at that part too now, although I've only talked to her once so far. I'll have to take a look tomorrow.
Still, very odd that this only seems to happen with PAL versions of the game. How could they screw that up if they only need to translate the game?

^Perhaps a word in the code got translated on accident. or there's a trigger that requires a sting variable.

Good point, but wouldn't that only make the game freeze when playing in a language other than English? (I doubt they 'translated' the American English into British English)

Blueberry, if you can get through 2-2 without a problem, let me know. I really hope this is just one bad batch and the rest are fine or something.

what with this and the recent recall of Mario Party 8. Somebody I asked about this told me his copy of Tingle had frozen up on him, too. A game crippling bug and the word "spastic" aren't quite the same But then NoE gives us sexy Japan Only games on VC! So they can't be all bad

It's still a recall, whatever the problem was. It's starting to look like this is going to have to be recalled, too.

Hooray! I just replicated the exact same glitch with no effort at all. It's a definite manufacturing fault!
I wonder if every copy is like this then.
Edit Just sent a letter to the Nintendo Service Centre to see if they know of the fault and asking what they're going to do about it. Seeing as the Nintendo community forums have been closed for "security reasons".

I do not own this game but GoNintendo.com has posted some information about the glitch and how to get around it. From Gonintendo.com A solution that is working in some instances is setting the system language to German. This will allow you to progress past the glitchy point. You’ll be able to save after you get past the bug, and then you can power off and switch your language back. Also another method without changing the language. Read the second comment. gonintendo.com/?p=25114#comments
