I presume some of you will have visited the site recently, some of you may have even come through the site to get here... what I can almost guarantee is that no-one will be visiting here from the site for the first time...

BECAUSE GAMESPY IS COCKING IT ALL UP!!

At first I thought it was just me... then after doing a little bit of research I found TMK had been struck by a similar affliction of "banneritis". For some reason it only seems to have affected specific sites.

The problem seems to stem from an auto-added code in the body tag of each page conflicting with the actual banner code (or in some cases, with anything it comes into contact with). I did not add this code... it is not in my files. I don't mind that it's added. I do mind that it's been added when it clearly doesn't work.

However, I don't understand why NinDB and TMK have it, whereas PlanetNintendo-hosted affiliates such as Animal Forest and F-Mode seem unscathed. It's not because they have deviously spurned the banner ad, because my attempt to remove it didn't remove the problem at all. My attempt to change the banner code didn't do anything.

Like I said in the title of this... this is EXACTLY what I don't need right now. I'm worrying about getting everything up into the new format by tomorrow latest, and I'm worrying about a new layout for the borders and everything. On top of that, any solutions that arise will have to wait until NEXT Sunday unless I'm given them immediately, because I won't have access to a computer until then. So Gamespy better get this sorted! I have written them an email, so hopefully they'll reply... but I'm not confident in their response time.

I already figured there was something wrong with the banner, but after refreshing a few times it even scares me what get's put there. I've even seen stuff for AIM buddy icons floating by.

Is there some add-on code added while loading a page or just the code in the body tag and the banner conflicting?

There is code added to the page by the server. I didn't realise they were doing it, and I presume it's to load the banner ad.

But it's trying to load something extra just under where the banner sits. That's what's causing all of the problems. I tried deleting the existing banner but that didn't do anything.

If you view the page source the code that's added is just after the opening Body tag, and the garbled mess appears just outside of the table I keep the banner ad in.

Anyway... grrrr... I'm going to get back to the nearly-done NES section and worry about this when they contact me. They better get it sorted soon.

Too bad you can't really do something for it yourself then. You'll have to wait for GameSpy to fix it. And that may take a while. v.v

Yea, there's alot of discussion about this problem at Hosted-All. No one seems to know what's causing it or why it effects only certain sites.

I've checked quite a few sites now, and it seems quite a few of the Gamespy hosted sites suffer from it, with code appearing at random points. Some have it under the banner, some under the text, some roughly halfway down...

Notice how it's not happening on NinDB's Index page though... but it is on TMK's

Is it possible that the banner problem is damaging the game pages severely already? The 10-Yard Fight page in the NES section starts off as grey, but then it becomes completely white.

Edit: I just accessed the main page and the banner problem seems to have dissapeared (even after refreshing), at least temporally. And the 10-Yard Fight page is back to normal. Maybe it's all over now.

There's only one way to get rid of this problem. Move your site back to Classic Gaming.

Maybe that might help. I don't know much about how to get rid of problems like this but it's the only solution I can ever come up with.

That won't help. The problem is all over GameSpy.

Where the pages were severely damaged tended to be caused by a half-built table appearing, and if you refreshed it a number of times the effect would change. I saw the European Gamecube game list jammed into the menu bar, sitting in the middle as a sickly bright orange, and again with the standard "garble" at the top.

But it does seem to have stopped for the time being. Let's hope that's the end of it.

As an aside, I notice the auto-added Script ID tag (which I'd guessed was causing the problems) has moved back to the top of the source code, rather than sitting in the body tag. Maybe that was the problem.

ANYWAY! That cocked up a momentous occasion! The Famicom / NES section is up in the new format! Hoorah!

I didn't. It had nothing to do with me. Gamespy had the problem, and they fixed it... and thus it was fixed on all websites hosted on their servers, including NinDB.

All I did was write a complaining email ;D
