According to IGN, Nintendo have announced that they are shipping FREE Wiimote covers to people in Japan and Europe. There is no mention about a similar scheme in the US, though. Apparently, these covers will make gripping the Wii remote more easy, and will prevent more accidents.

It's true... I ordered two yesterday, after I received a message about it on my Wii. Not sure if I'll use them, but hey, they're free! ;D

There is no mention about a similar scheme in the US, though. No, it's in the US, too. ( Link) I've never had problems with gripping the remote, so I don't need one of these. On the other hand, free stuff is hard to say no to.

I just received mine. Haven't played anything using it yet, but holding the remote sideways is definitely much easier on the hands now.
Bit late though; the website said they'd send them out mid-October. But I shouldn't complain about free stuff.

I ordered these a couple weeks ago, but I'm still waiting for them to arrive. I wasn't really fussed at first, as I have hardened gaming hands brought about by years of NES controllers (and more recently, the uncomfortable DS).
But hell, they're free! Why not?
So, do they really make that much of a difference?

I've decided to forgo the covers, since I use the Nokia rechargable battery packs, and it looks like the Wiimote covers would block the areas needed to plug into the recharge station. I don't wanna have to pull the covers on and off each time I gotta charge the batteries. Pain in the butt. Besides, I've never lost my grip on my Wiimote yet, so nerr.

Mine came free with the system, and it's nice. But it is a bit of a pain to change the batteries, that it is.

I actually got mine about two weeks after i ordered them. They are (IMO) quite easier to grip, and to keep the cursor from flickering all over the place (though it still does).

I got mine recently... but...
I feel the word "Wiimote" should be banned. Nintendo uses "Wii Remote" whenever they refer to it.
