I wanted to post this a long time ago, but here it is.
I have two Wii controllers. Both work great. One came with the Wii, the other with Wii Play. But when you start the Wii, it says "Press A". It seems to only want one controller, it won't accept the other's A-pressing. What's up with that?

One is always recognized as "player 1" and the other, vice versa. I don't really know how to change it, but I haven't tried

You can do the re-sync red button in the battery compartment maybe? Pressing 1 and 2 sometimes lets you join other controllers like in Wii Sports, so maybe you can switch them by holding 1 and 2 on the second controller before the other comes on?

Wii's controller mechanism... I hate it. It doesn't let you pre-set Players 1-4 but asks you to reconnet everytime, with only Player 1 "always connected". Some games don't have screens to instruct you to plug in the controllers too - and I spend forever to recognise there's a feature like that in the pause screen.
In respond to your question, Mr. Molecule, you needa reset the controller thing every time.
Looks like Nintendo is REALLY bad at making operating systems, eh? I mean, Wii menu is not anywhere near user-friendliness!

Weird... I only have two controllers, but it lets me do whatever I want with either one. Usually it accepts whichever one I start the Wii up with as player 1, and relegates the other to Player 2 status.

Hmm. Did you try syncing the other remote? I did that and now I can use whatever remote I want.

Yeah, you have to sync both remotes to your system by holding down the red button inside the battery compartment, and the red button inside the SD Card panel on the Wii. Then either remote should be able to become Player 1 when you start.
Both of my remotes are synched (Synced? Sinked?) to my system, and I don't have that problem.
