New previews from Next Gen and IGN, altho they don't actually reveal much. Strange considering that the Japanese release is at the end of this month. Could this game be suffering from Metroid Prime 3 syndrome, or are Nintendo and Tecmo deliberately keeping quiet to preserve the scariness of the game? Next Gen indicates that development for the game is taking place primarily at Grasshopper Manufacture, which contradicts an earlier report I read that said only Suda 51 and GM's music composer were involved. It also mentions that the controls will be similar to Resident Evil 4, but I don't know what they're basing this on since it doesn't seem to be a hands-on preview. IGN goes more into story detail, and also notes the conspicuous absence of information. But then, E3 is just around the bend. Maybe the game is so scary, they are busy making a trailer that won't ruin everybody pants at Nintendo E3 presenation. Okay, that's probably not true . . .

GoNintendo caught on to two more new updates. Here are some magazine scans with new pics. Some are actual gameplay pictures since you can see the cursor and other info on screen. From these, I can see how the game might control like Resident Evil 4. Also, Nintendo's official Japanese site has been updated with info and pics that can be seen here.

The Japanese Nintendo Channel has been getting some trailers/ads for the game. Including ones of people sitting a couch and getting scared by the game.

It seems somewhat conspicuous that stuff like this and Dead Rising Wii are revealed during the week of E3, but not at E3. Perhaps this simply underlines the fact that E3 isn't the major event that it once was. It's good to finally see this game in motion, tho. I'm still quite looking forward to it, and hope that it gets an international release. EDIT: Here's a slightly higher quality version of the trailer.

Here's some strange and disheartening news. According to GoNintendo, no one from NoA at E3 was even aware of what Fatal Frame IV was, including their new VP of Sales and Marketing, Denise Kaigler. Kinda gives you the idea that NoA isn't as smart as it likes to think it is...

Bunch o' updates here. According to Kotaku, Tecmo sent out an e-mail stating that all questions regarding Fatal Frame IV's absence at E3 are to be directed to Nintendo since they are the publishers. (Assuming, of course, that someone at NoA bothered to get a clue.) GoNintendo reports that an interview (in Japanese) was posted on the official website. It revealed a whole bunch of miscellanea about the game, which can be found at the link above. They also posted a new trailer. In fact, the official site is apparently littered with new videos. The folks at fan site Beyond the Camera's Lens have direct links to all of them. Now, all that's missing is an announcement for international release (which, it seems, wouldn't be this year anyway ). EDIT: IGN has posted its own summary of the interview. It's a good read.

Quadruple post! 4-hit combo! IGN has hand-on impressions of the Japanese version of the game. They're generally positive except for, disappointingly, the controls. Apparently, the camera controls are really awkward (and their description certainly sounds so), and they called it "one of the biggest missed opportunities in recent times." Still, IGN is confident of an International release, and perhaps Nintendo would be willing to adjust things for it.

WARNING ANGER APPROACHING!Now totally ignoring the last post, a lot of you are going to be very disappointed. Remember how Reggie said Nintendo was not the publisher of FFIV in NA?Well . . . according to Temco, Nintendo is the publisher in NA! and they don't want to publish the game in NA.“Nintendo holds the publishing rights to ‘Fatal Frame Wii,’ which was developed by Tecmo LTD. and Grasshopper Manufacture and released in Japan on July 31, 2008. Nintendo of America has since then decided not to publish the title in North America – consequently, the title will not be released in this territory. As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America.” - Tecmo rep WHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go go Nintendo, fucking over North America left and right, don't want to keep the core gaming community feeling tight want to say Wii Sports Resort is all that you need Capt. Rainbow, Disaster and Fatal Frame are better left to the other territories They don't hear all of NinDB's pleas They just hear the money go cha-ching. Gah. NoA is not making me happy these days,

I know Sqrt2 must have posted something similar to this in the last post but here's the final nail in the coffin for a western release of FFIV, an official Nintendo statement. "One time envisaged for a May release, the localization of the game has been cancelled and the game will stay as an Japanese exclusive game". - Nintendo official statement Well, at least they said this before E3 2009 happened. Source.

Since Tecmo weren't gonna fix the bugs, good riddance is what I say. Better no game than one with serious bugs.

Never saw this coming, it appears a FF fansite is now working on a Fatal Frame 4 Translation Patch Project. This is not a joke. "Fansite Beyond the Camera’s Lens has brought word of an intimidating fan project set to bring the game to Wiis around the world. The Fatal Frame 4 Translation Patch Project seeks to create a file that would run off an SD card and translate Fatal Frame IV while you’re playing. Yes, you would need to import a copy of the game from Japan, but you would not need a Japanese Wii to play it. From the team’s FAQ page: We are attempting a very ambitious patch which will patch the original game on-the-fly, something that to my knowledge has never been attempted before. Should we succeed, the patch will be read off an SD card and run through the Wii Memory Management menu, and will function as long as you have the original game in your disc drive.
Should the patching method be successfully implemented, the game will run on any Wii, any version, any region." One has to admit, since you need the Japanese game in order to play it, it's not illigal like using the Mother 3 ROM since you haveto pay for it.

BUMP! The english translation project is complete! Go here to get the patch. Requires a retail copy of FFIV though (imported obiviously) and nothing else. Not even homebrew. Sucks that no one cares enough about Captain Rainbow to give it a fan translation. Here's some footage.
