Sounds like you're thinking about Bart's Nightmare on the SNES... one of the first SNES games I ever played (at a friend's house... I couldn't bring myself to own it when I has SMW)

That's the one! ;D
So, the other one is the arcade one then - I remember playing it at Tilt at Miranda Westfield (Sydney, Australia), when it still existed (when I was a kid) - nobody knows where that is, of course, this being an international site and all... ;D

Is that The Simpsons: Attack of the Space Mutants? Had that on the Amiga. I could get to the second level before dying horribly on spikes (in a mall).
It was a bit rubbish. Came out on the NES too, but I don't think the graphics were as good.

Nah, I think it had Mr Burns and Smithers (I think) kidnap Maggie, and you picked either Bart, Homer, Lisa or Marge (I think) - it was an arcade game on the machines - you know the type where the screen moves rightwards on a street scene, the stops, and enemies attack from all sides - you fight them, and then the screen starts moving again to the next bit, stops, etc.
The first boss was a giant wrestler.
I remember playing this at arcade places - it was fun. Is this the one you mean DIU?

I remember playing this at arcade places - it was fun. Is this the one you mean DIU? Sure sounds like it. What I mostly remember was that each character had their own special moves, and Marge’s was a Vacuum (or some other cleaning device – maybe a broom), and that when you died and your character came back they’d be in a super hero suit. Magic Mountain had one, as does a sporting complex not too far from my house. And Magic Mountain wasn’t really a theme park, more of an arcade, but with water slides, dodgem cars, dodgem boats and mini-golf. So in summary, and awesome place, until they tore it down. We still have Intensity in Marion though, which has 2 awesome F-Zero AX machines near the door, and has Nintendo-based competitions from time to time, so all is not lost. Oh, and that place has the new Simpsons pinball, which rocks.

Update on the arcade machines:
DIU, it appears I was incorrect... it's not in Adelaide... It's in Newcastle, which is better for me, as I'm in Sydney, and Newcastle is very close (in terms of inter-city travel that is). Where in the world did I get Adelaide from?
Anyway - the machines are sold on-line, so I have been informed, but I don't have a website as of yet - give me a bit longer to get that bit of info, and then you can check it out (provided there actually is a website and I wasn't misinformed about that).
Otherwise, I'll have to track down a phone number for the 'shop'.
Update over.

Nah, The Simpsons arcade game was a Streets of Rage/Golden Axe type of game. It was one of the best Simpsons games ever made, IMO... except for Bart's Nightmare.

And I don't have a Game Boy Player either, though I have considered getting one to make getting GB screenshots a little easier. Or a little more legal? If Nintendo didn't release it in a console or handheld capacity (or as a Virtual Boy), then I don't have it.

Let's see... I used to own a NES but my brother tripped on the controller wire while I was playing "The Three Stooges". No G&Ws but I do own two of those Stadlbauer MiniClassic G&Ws from '98 or '99. No SNES No Virtual Boy No Game Boy No DS No Game Boy Advance SP No Game Boy Player No Famicom Disc System

Amazed to hear that you don't have an SNES! Once I kept playing Super Famicom during all time of my summer holidays!
And I think most people here do not have the Famicom DS (DS = Disk System ;D).

I think I might get an FDS or a Virtual Boy off of eBay for my birthday.
If I did, I'd be a happy camper.
