I've bought a new miniclassic when I left my school today. It's Super Mario Bros, and here's something that I want to share.
Gamelay:
Similiar to Ice Climber, you make use of the control pad and the button.
5 of the 8 levels scrolls automatically, forcing you to move quickly.
Levels
1: A simple sidescroller. Nobody should have any problem on this.
2: Another simple stage with vertical walls. Don't get crushed by the autoscroll!
3: An underground course. All you have to do is to avoid the 2 fire bars.
4: I can't describe what this is, but this seems to be a swimming / maze(?) course. You have to walk up and down this time, avoiding the wall.
5: Another simple stage that requires a lot of jumping.
6: Once again, this is an underground course. but instead of avoiding fire bars, you have to jump onto moving platforms and finally reach Princess Toadstool.
7: This is a "maze". Get through the same structure repeatedly and finally reach 3 pipes. enter the correct one (I won't tell which!)
8: The final stage. I'm still having trouble with this stage, so I can't tell what to do exactly. What I am certain is that Lakitu will appear throwing things down!
Review on hardware:
When I pull the insulating tab, I needed to wait for a while before it started! Also I couldn't Push the tab in, otherwise I'll have to wait again! And the worst thing is, everytime I push the tab in and pull it back, I have to wait it all over again, and sometimes it may have no respondce and I'll have to reset again!
Since this is originally a Game & Watch product, I'll talk about the "Watch" part first. I can't adjust the time, so it is actually forcing me to reset.
Review on game:
The gameplay is really good! Other than the autoscroll thing, the gameplay is quite close than the original. You jump, you run, you travel pipes, you don't kill enemies though.
The sound is the thing that I like the best. Firstly, it is close to the original, and secondly, in underground levels, it does have background music! Amazing! The first and only G&W (remake) that I can hear really music from.
Others:
When not playing the game, it show a little animation showing Mario playing stage 1 and eventally lose. The point is the same as original - in the NES version, Mario demonstrates how to play and than loses!
The little animation seems to be similiar to that of G&W Gallery 3 Museum Mode, but they're much different. In G&W Gallery 3, the little movie shows something like stage 1 with bullet bills, and Mario can jump up 2 units, which is impossble on my Miniclassic.
Anyway, I've gone crazy when I bought the Miniclassic! The reason of buying SMB? It's the only one that I haven't tried!
