I bought excite bike for nes at a pawn shop today. In the design mode there are two options to save and load. I thought that Zelda was the first game you could save. I made my track and saved it and I restarted my nes and then I tried loading it. The loading sign was on for like 5 minutes and then I turned it off. Does the save feature work?

Nope, save and load don't work. According to the manual: "Save and Load menu selections are not operable in this game; they have been programmed in for potential product developments." Perhaps disk drive support?

Do they work in the GBA port?

don't think so. I think Nintendo said that they kept some bugs in the GBA ports for retro gamers. I don't know if it's true though.

The GBA ports (NES Classics that is) are basically the same exact thing as the NES ports.

The Japanese version of Excitebike allowed you to record the Excitebike stages to a tape deck. Perhaps they planned to bring this out in the US and then couldn't be bothered or something.
Zelda was the first game to use battery backup.

That would have been pretty cool to save [American] Excitebike stages. I've spent loads of time on stages in the past.

That sucks that there is no save. At least the game is good.

Hope the Rev port would be able to save that... if you can go download it.

The GBA ports (NES Classics that is) are basically the same exact thing as the NES ports. But you can save in the ones I have, so I would think Excitebike would be the same.
