Hello! Im just wondering, now that the Revolution and the Nintendo DS/DS Lite have hit the shelves (or are going to hit the shelves) do we have to post threads about Gamecube and Gameboy Advance in Classic Nintendo boards, or are GC and GBA still classed as Conventional Nintendo?
Kinda weird question I know, but while im on the subject: When is the DS Lite coming out and what is the likely price? I checked the DS page but I didnt see any other release dates, is this because they are not known right now? Anyways, thanks for the info in advance, oh god-like gamers! LOL

LOL www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/index.html2 March, ¥16800. It shouldn't have been out yet for other regions (excluding imports). As for now, there are still GC and GBA games coming, so I guess we should just leave it as Contemporary.

Thanks for the info YL, but I was looking for release dates for DS Lite in US and Europe and what sort of price range. I knew that it had already been released in Japan. Is there any confirmation of the system being released over here at a certain date yet?
As for the classic/contempary nintendo stuff, I guess you are right, GC and GBA are still hot stuff for me! Thanky greatly

We'll start posting NGC and GBA game is the classic over time. It has to intigrate first so they'll both have to launch first and we wont do this until after it has some time to be out.

So, when exactly do we start classifying a game as a classic? When Meijer and Target no longer carry them?

Both GC and GBA are dying, but they are not dead yet.

True, GC and GBA may be on their way out, but I will still play them even when they are classed as "classic nintendo". Same with my SNES and N64...etc As for the DS Lite, oh well, it will be out one day and when it does I'll probably be there. Same for the REV which looks juicier everyday Thanks for the info anyways...

The main rumour regarding the DS Lite is that it will appear alongside New Super Mario Bros. sometime in May in the US. Europe may well do the same thing - but it may not.
As for when we start talking about a console as a "classic"? We don't, until there's no more new software released for the system. If Nintendo were to release a game for the N64 right now, we would talk about it in the contemporary Nintendo thread... because it would be a new game. They're not going to... but if they did...
NinDB's official stance, however, is that when there's no more first party software lined up for a console (in short, when the site's game lists are completed) then it stops being a contemporary console. As far as I'm aware, the GBA's Japanese game list will be completed in just 5 days with the release of Mother 3. I may eat those words come E3, but I doubt it with the DS doing so well.
I don't count third party software, as I imagine some companies will keep releasing GBA software well into next year - crappy budget titles, that kind of thing.
Gamecube has at least until the release of Twilight Princess, then, before it becomes a classic... and we don't know what else Nintendo has up its sleeves.

According to the official site, " カルチョビット" (published by Nintendo) is still coming up for the GBA. Mother 3 is not the last GBA game.

Haha, I knew they'd pull something like that "Karuchobit"? I don't have my Japanese dictionary to hand, so that may be wrong. What on Earth could it be? Sounds like a puzzle game

Ah I understand now...so only classic when the production line for the consoles ceases, gotcha! So twilight princess is going to be the final "official" first party nintendo release? Quite sad really, the years pass quite quickly but who can't be excited about the Revolution having backwards compatability with classic consoles?
Hey thats just made me think! (oh no not again, lol) With the REV's compatibilty to play older games, do you think they might release like a classic "game". With some old favourites lined up in one disc or sumthing? I would like that, kinda like what they are doing with the Gamecube now. Later!

Note: not when the production line ceases... heavens no! But when first-party game production ceases. You see, especially in Japan, Nintendo doesn't cease console production immediately. They were still producing new Famicom and Super Famicom consoles until September of 2003!! They even continued producing Super Famicom games well into this millennium... which would have been a problem, but thankfully they stopped before NinDB was set up A classic game compilation might be a bit pointless, seeing as you'll be able to download a bunch of them for the virtual console. Maybe they'll do some classic Game Boy games updated in sexy 16-bit style

Wow really? I didnt know the production line for the consoles and the games carried on still, though they are craved consoles! Updated classics would be great as you say, at least i wont need to buy a Super game boy / Gameboy Player type enhancement for REV
