cube.ign.com/objects/482/482801.htmlGo here for more details. This was at first another showcase thingy in 2002. The GameEye device could be connected to the GBA to take pictures of anything in view and somehow mold them into polygons (like in the scenes with the Red Pikmin and Animal Crossing character) This was actually way before Sony came out with their Eye Toy peripheral (kind of ripping Nintendo off). It's quite hard to go more into, but it's open to interpretation there.

I'm hoping Nintendo revives this on the Wii using Miis.
But, it's hard to say if Sony stole the idea. Coiencidence yes, but theft, not really. But, interesting non the less.

Well, apparently Miyamoto had been trying to come up with an avatar system since the Famicom Disk System was released, which then shifted to the Satellaview, then to the 64DD releases and then he tried Stage Debut on Gamecube. And finally he settled for the Mii on Wii. So says the man himself at the latest GDC. Imagine having an idea like that and waiting for the world to catch up so you can use it

But avatars on the older systems sounds harder to implement onto those systems than it does the Wii.
