This is really just for me since I'm such a fan of the film, but the news blew me away. Ain't It Cool News and Nerdcore are putting together " The Wizard Reunion Extravaganza!" Fred Savage (the original Corey Woods), Luke Edwards (The Wizard, himself), and director Todd Holland will be in attendance. No mention of Jenny Lewis, Christian Slater, Beau Bridges, or Jackey Vinson. The screening is in Austin, Texas, so... I won't be there. But hopefully they'll broadcast the Q&A session on YouTube or something. But cool! I never thought something like this would ever happen!

I wish I could go. They should have a dress code: one piece of Nintendo clothing required. If you're wearing a Powerglove, you get a front row seat because you're so bad.

It seems that The Wizard Reunion has been delayed until February 8, apparently because Fred Savage couldn't make the original date. In the mean time, Ain't It Cool News has given us a somewhat rambling interview with director Todd Holland. It reveals a few interesting bits. For instance, the first cut of the movie was 2 1/2 hours long. Also, Todd thought he was perfect to direct the film because he, himself, did not like to play video games. It reminds me of how Hiroshi Yamauchi prided himself for the same thing. He also mentioned that when he found out the movie was on DVD, he wanted to get Fred Savage, Jenny Lewis and Luke Edwards together to do a little YouTube documentary about it since the DVD had no extras. It's also mentioned that Lewis and Jackey "Lucas" Vinson are not involved with the reunion because Lewis is busy with Rilo Kiley (touring Europe), and Vinson simply couldn't be found.

I've always meant to see it, but I never did. I'll put it on my gigantic to-do list.

Well, to be honest, The Wizard is one of those so-bad-it's-good movies. The reason everyone went to see it when it came out was because it had never before seen footage of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. 3! There was no internet back then, so you had to buy a ticket to get the info.
