Ladies and Gentlemen, we may soon be in for a pleasant treat. Next week, Japan will get Pokémon Snap--arguably one of the best and most memorable Poké-spinoff titles--for the Virtual Console. There's no indication on when other regions will be getting the game, but one interesting tidbit has popped up in Joystiq.com's article on the release:
Pokémon Snap VC will have new features that allow it to work with the Wii's Photo Channel and Message Board. Pictures taken in-game can now be imported into the Wii, and thus can be used in either section accordingly, so you can swap with your friends.
I bet my Dancin' Snorlax beats your Flamin' Magmar. Hoo-ah!
So...discuss! What does this mean for future VC games? Hopefully this feature also remains intact when we get it over here and in the UK/AUS regions.

Fantastic! Pokemon Snap is one of those games everyone leaves out when talking about Pokemon spinoffs - usually in a positive way.
"All Pokemon spinoffs suck badly... except Pokemon Snap."
It's easily one of the most addictive games I played on the N64. You can always do just a LITTLE bit better. And the fact you get ranked on individual photos and entire runs is just brilliant, as it keeps you coming back to the same stages to try for loads of different high scores.
Being able to export the images is great, although admittedly would be a lot more fitting if this was a new game in the series rather than the old N64 title. I mean, I'll still be obsessing over getting the photos, but I doubt they'll look quite so good in the end.
As for what this means for other VC games being updated for Wii functionality... I think we're missing a few very obvious games for this very reason:
Super Mario Kart... one of the most loved games evar. We have Mario Kart 64, but why not this classic piece of gaming history? I suspect it's being given a wi-fi treatment, with scoreboards and the like. Maybe they'll go back and add that functionality to MK64 as well.
Star Fox... the original. It was groundbreaking, but compared to the newer games in the series, a pig(ma) to control. Hopefully they are revising it with Wii Remote controls, so it will be more intuitive than the sticky old digital controls.

So Nintendo has found a way to implement Wii functionality into Pokémon Snap. Great, now use the knowledge to repair the flaws the VC games before it have.

Awesome news! I loved that game, definitely one of the better non-RPG PKMN games...incredibly fun and addictive.
I'd love to see an updated, longer sequel, with more features and levels and everything...and of course, Pokemon from the Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh regions as well as Kanto...

Hooray! I found myself craving this game very recently, and I have 1500 Wii Points sitting on my system, so getting this (hopefully) next week will be a no-brainer.

Wow. I can't believe so many people liked this game! I thought I was the only one!
Seeing Pokemon in their natural habitat was really fun.

It's nice to see Nintendo is doing this. The game was not perfect (only 61 or 63 of the original 151 PKMN were in the game) but it had a really nice setting and atmosphere to it as well.

Is this that game that they had playable at US Blockbusters awhile back?
I hated that game for some reason, but I think it was because I thought you had to shoot the Pokemon and I thought the game was broken. ;D

Sweet. Haven't played this for a while, and the new functionality sounds good.

Is this that game that they had playable at US Blockbusters awhile back? Not only that, they had special machines that let you print out the pictures you took as stickers.

Man, we obsessed over this game hardcore back in the day. I'm not sure I'll get it, but still: it's nice to know Nintendo is adding some nice functionality. Here's to bigger, better things in the future.

Well... I guess it was a long time ago... but I remember Pokemon snap being one of the shortest games I've ever played. It didn't leave much of an impression on me... it was over so soon.

Going through the game for the first time, yes, it's very short. But add the replay value from trying to get pictures of every Pokemon, including the last Pokemon in the secret bonus level at the end, and you get at least a few extra hours of gameplay.

Yeah, rushing through it in one sitting isn't how to play it. It's a high-score game rather than a story-driven beginning-to-end game. It'd be like saying WarioWare isn't any good because it's over so quickly... Go back and play it again then! ;D
